I came across mention of IMAPSync and Larch as tools to move emails out of Gmail to a new email account. Does anyone have any experience using these?

I have a family's worth of email gmail accounts all of which are running out of space and will need to be moved to a new email provider. They would of course all like to keep their historical sent and recieved emails.

Hosting your own email server is a challenge, as DMARC, SPF and random hand waving by email companies (who should know better) make it needlessly problematic.

There's also the issue of whether your home ISP allows inbound email ports (25/tcp, etc). A lot don't.

It's possible(?) a hosting provider can do decent email, but I tend to think of that like 1990s-era ISPs who provided email: liable to be discontinued at any time with little/no notice and not portable.

But it's your call. Good luck.

Yeah . I dont think we will move their primary.email addresses from Gmail but mainly use their accounts for identity purposes with self hosting and backup / storage of emails rather than paying Google.

Who knows though ..I meqn on q VPS im using an email server at moment to collaborate work with friends. It wouldn't be mission critical .. just family critical.
