- No memes, trolling, misinformation, or low-effort posts/comments (including reposts). If you see posts like this that anger you, do not engage. Report, block, and live a happier life than they do. Any slap-fight is subject to comment removals. Fights full of rule violations will result in temporary bans to cool off.
- No manipulating votes via bots or alt accounts; this will result in permanent bans. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
- No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in an account ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be permanently banned.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules and use critical thinking when reading, posting, and commenting. Users that repeatedly have comments or posts removed, weaponize reports, or violate the code of conduct, will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. I think @jordanlund@lemmy.world is right. The Monk has many beliefs that I either agree with or at least understand where they're coming from. If there had been full duration Democratic primary, or any of the 3rd parties been even remotely competent/had a chance, or the voting system been a universal Ranked-Choice Voting system or better I'd probably support them. But he refused to see reality to the point I think it is fair to argue a dishonest agenda at best.
Regardless of the cognitive dissonance saying that gives me, I think it was a good thing for the community, and perhaps Monk too, that a break was mandated.
I think we have the same view on this, except I don't have cognitive dissonance over the ban - the ban was for a repeating behaviour of reposting/repeat posts, rather than the person's stubbornness over the whole spoiler effect/FPTP means only two real choices thing.
Also, it's temporary and just one magazine (rather than, say, the entire instance).
I have a similar experience. E.g. https://lemmy.world/comment/12591604 - the user was pretty friendly to me and chill about it when I let them know that one of their posts helped me convince a third party voter to vote Harris instead.
I'm not sure how that comment fits into the conversation.

After seeing how that user banned DMs, I don't see how anyone could be against the current permaban. I was just pointing out that somehow I was one of the rare few who somehow got along with that person while they were still here.
