Source with more illustrations: The Hobbit - The Tolkien Estate

‘Bilbo comes to the Huts of the Raft-elves’, July 1937. Tolkien was disappointed when this illustration was left out of the American edition as it was his favourite one, where he felt he had captured the scene most successfully.

All of Tolkien's original artwork from the Hobbit is fantastic. My copy has several interspersed throughout the book including my absolute favorite: Conversation with Smaug by J.R.R Tolkien which I shamelessly edited to make another beer label a while back: Beer label for a beer called Bane of Dale

Any sort of Middle Earth legendarium artwork is ok. It doesn't need to be made by or about hobbits.

Please give attribution to the original artist when possible.

It is not required, but if you know, please talk a bit about the scene in the image. What's going on? Who is in it? Why is it happening? Do you like it? Why?
