I was curious to see if the new (old) Red Dead Redemption can be played on macOS through a compatibility software (Whisky or Crossover).

But it seems the game can't be played because the DRM used on it ins't compatible with Crossover.

I'm curious if the already cracked version can be used on Crossover or Whisky. Has anyone tested it? If it works, then it's only way to play the game on macOS.

Edit.: Here is some testing that the game can't be played on macOS now. There are two ways of playing it: emulating the Switch version through Ryujinx or the cracked version.

When Palia released on Switch earlier this week, I had no idea it was also available on PC. I did some digging and found this launcher and guide for running Palia on Mac. So far I have been playing it most of the day without issue. Setup was just as easy as setup on Windows.

Really excited to play the game. Seems like a Game of the Year candidate. Should be released around September 6 for Mac on Steam (and I think GoG)

After approximately 10 months in a release candidacy phase, OpenMW 0.48 has finally been released. A list of changes can be found in the link.

The OpenMW team is proud to announce the release of version 0.48.0 of our open-source engine!

So what does another fruitful year of diligent work bring us this time? The two biggest improvements in this new version of OpenMW are the long-awaited post-processing shader framework and an early version of a brand-new Lua scripting API! Both of these features greatly expand what the engine can deliver in terms of visual fidelity and game logic. As usual, we've also solved numerous problems major and minor, particularly pertaining to the newly overhauled magic system and character animations.

A full list of changes can be found in the link to Gitlab.

What is OpenMW?

"OpenMW is a free, open source, and modern engine which re-implements and extends the 2002 Gamebryo engine for the open-world role-playing game The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind."

It is an excellent way to play Morrowind on modern systems, and on alternative systems other than MS Windows. It requires the a copy of the original game data from Morrowind, as OpenMW does not include assets or any other game data - it is simply a recreation of the game engine. OpenMW can be found on Flathub for Linux users here. https://flathub.org/apps/org.openmw.OpenMW

Hello everyone!

My first post on Lemmy after long time lurker.

I will buy a new mac in the next week. I’m quite torn between 2 models.

My use case: General computing (web, documents, media consimption) Occasionally: programming + spinning VMs + some gaming

Although I won’t be gaming all the time, I plan to do it ocasionally. Games like Skyrim, witcher3 + MMOs (wow, ff14 or guild wars) DOTA/LOL or similar stuff.

The contenders would be: A) MacBook Pro 14 M1 Pro 10 core CPU / 16 core GPU - 16GB RAM - 1TB SSD

  • better cooling?
  • better SSD speeds and bigger capacity Price = 2450€

B) MacBook Pro 14 M2 pro 10 core CPU / 16 core GPU - 16GB RAM - 512GB SSD

  • better GPU, but marginal gain? Price = 2499€

Alternatively, I could look at the MacBook Air m2 with 16GB/512GB at 1990€ since it seems it handles this games moderately . However, summer here is hot

Any advice? Furthermore, stocks seem to be low, some models no longer exist and there seems to be no deals

Thanks in advance!!! Looking forward to discussion

I had to update to the beta branche of Steam, because when starting the Steam Link I got a pop up about installing audio drivers, but the window was unresponsive and switching to the beta branch fixed that issue. (found in this post)

So now I got it working, but I get like 10 FPS, to fix this I’ve already tried:

  • Rebooting macOS and iPadOS
  • Making sure all software is up to date (macOS, iPadOS, Steam, Steam Link)
  • I'm going to try to have my laptop wired via a ethernet cable to see if that fixes the issue, but that isn't really a real solution at the moment

I’m on a 5GHz network, with the Mac, iPad and access point all in the same room and with a direct line of sight to each other. I’ve also tried the build in macOS SideCar feature, but this keeps coming up with “Lost Connection” every 10 seconds. It seem something is causing interference on my network, but I can't figure out what or what setting to change where.

As a side note, I just come from a year long game streaming service on which I’ve played a lot of games with a DualShock 4 controller connected to my iPad. When the service was working as it should I could stream games at 40mb/s with a decent resolution and a steady 60FPS and this was over the internet, so I would figure that streaming my Mac over the local network, would be no issue.

Below all the settings I could think of sharing.
