I was wondering if anyone could offer some insights.

Bit the bullet and purchased Alan Wake 2 on the Epic Game Store. With the DLC on the way I just can't wait any longer and maybe this one will never come to Steam? (With Epic as publishers, who knows)

I've installed Heroic Game Launcher, downloaded the latest Wine-GE and Proton-GE, downloaded the game and managed to get it running. Tried it with both Wine-GE and Proton-GE. No noticeable difference.

My specs:

  • Intel Core i7 10700K
  • 48Gb RAM
  • Radeon RX 7800 XT 16Gb
  • Manjaro Linux, kernel 6.9
  • Mesa 24.1.1 (using the mesa-nonfree repo)
  • Game is installed on my 1TB NVME drive

I'm running things on Medium/High, with FSR2 on Balanced, in 2560x1440

No raytracing enabled anywhere.

Honestly, it doesn't matter what resolution I choose. Even when running is 720p on Low, the framerate is the same.

I get around 27 fps with regular dips into the lower 15-20 when I spin the camera around quickly.

I've finished the first chapter (just in the morgue) and the framerate got choppier and choppier. I get Bright Falls has a lot more going on than the intro woodsy bit. But at this rate, I'm just not sure what to do.

When I look at other people on YouTube, their framerates are much higher. Even on Linux. And with less powerful hardware. Other games run MUCH faster. I get AW2 is demanding, but I can play CP2077: Phantom Liberty at 140+ fps in Dog Town on High in 1440p with FSR2 enabled, so I don't feel that AW2 should tank my PC that hard.

Is there something I'm overlooking here? I've tried the CyberFSR as well, made no noticeable difference.

Mangohud shows my CPU is consistently around 50% and my GPU is around 40% so there's definitely room to push things more, I feel. So why isn't AW2 using these resources?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I love this game and want to play it, but the framerate is stopping me from really enjoying it.

How are people coping with games that just won't run on Linux (aside from leaving them behind)? Do you dual boot Windows? Virtualize? What's your strategy for this?

This will be extremely rare for me since I don't play a lot of competitive stuff, but I'd love to find a solution. I have a large library, and it's bound to happen from time to time.

Hello everyone! I just wanted to ask if its possible to make mods for Hogwarts Legacy entirely on a Linux machine, and if it is if anyone can point me to any resources to get started with setting it up on Linux (guides specific to making actual mods I can probably find easily and I guess will be relevant regardless of if the guide is made on a Windows machine).

That's all, and thanks in advance!

Moving forward the plan is to implement more features needed for DXVK and VKD3D-Proton. Eventually the hope is to get to the point of being able to enjoy nice Windows games on Apple Silicon using Wine / Steam Play and an x86 emulator.

I downloaded Fallout 3 through gog.com and as soon as I figured what the hell I was doing, I got it downloaded and playing great. I'm on a Chromebook Plus with an i5 and Iris Xe graphics. When I go to download NV, it prompts me to a message that tells me Wine is preparing a 64 Bit download . Shouldn't it be 32 Bit?

If it isn't obvious, I'm very novice but I think I'll eventually figure it out with some help... so apologies if my terminology or phrasing is off.

Nothing too crazy with this release, mostly just importing upstream changes from Valve this time around.

• Persona 4 Golden video fixes have been re-added.
• wine updated to latest bleeding edge
• dxvk updated to latest git
• vkd3d-proton updated to latest git
• upstream proton changes added
• upstream steamclient changes added
• upstream wineopenxr changes added

From what details Intel provided they're claiming "60%" better battery life for these mobile processors in "real-life usages". Impressive if true, but just as exciting is the huge advancement of the graphics side with Xe2 which they claim will bring improved "gaming and graphics performance by 1.5x over the previous generation".

AMD say the new graphics will provide "console-class gaming on the go" and that the "Radeon 890M graphics has the fastest integrated graphics in its class".

Context, I use Linux, usually. I have been a user of Debian, Ubuntu, and Fedora for a few years.

Recently, I acquired a decent graphics card (GeForce RTX 4070) and, for others reasons, decided to uninstall my Windows and install Linux.

I saw that Pop!_OS already has an image with everything pre-configured from Nvidia. Is this pre-configuration worth it, are the games more stable on this distribution, or is it the same as installing Nvidia's proprietary drivers on Manjaro?

I asked this same question on other communities, but only now I found a specific community for gaming on Linux. Thanks.

I've tried base Wine and Wine-GE under Lutris.

Base Wine has the issue I mentioned in the title, where the game would play no sound apart from the menu music and the in-game commentary (meaning the menu movements don't do any sound, and during a match you don't hear the ball kicks and the referee whistle).

Lutris fully breaks audio with it's default settings. You need to disable fsync and esync to make the audio return (yet, it acts like base wine still)

DXVK has no effect as the game uses DirectX 8, meaning it's running under WineD3D.

A Reddit post mentions extracting the following DLLs from a DirectX8.1 installer and applying a override to use them, but doing so on my end just mutes the game: "dmime.dll dmsynth.dll dmloader.dll dmusic.dll dsound.dll dsdmo.dll"

Using DgVoodoo has no effects on this issue.

I got Star Wars Episode I Racer from GOG on a sale for dirt cheap back around May 4th. I've been trying to get it working via Heroic ever since, particularly the multiplayer, which is fixed via mods. The Lutris script definitely does all of this super easy, but not only would I like to have it working via Heroic for the gamepad controls navigation, I'd also like to pay it forward and document these steps on the PC Gaming Wiki. Unfortunately, while I thought I could tell what this script was doing after scouring the Lutris script documentation, I haven't managed to crack it, and the Heroic install of the game complains about not having IPX installed when I boot it.

https://lutris.net/games/install/13260/view

With the Lutris install of the game and the Heroic install of the game side by side in WineCFG, I can see that that there are library overrides set for:

  • dplaysvr.exe
  • dplayx
  • dpmodemx
  • dpnet
  • dpnhpast
  • dpnhupnp
  • dpnsvr.exe
  • dpwsockx

All "(native)". For some reason they're sorted to the top of the library overrides and marked with an asterisk, and what's more, I don't see any hint of these ones in the Lutris install script, but they got set somehow, and I don't see the libraries here that are listed in the script.

There are also several ways to use the mod fix, including the DLL override and the EXE patcher. The EXE patcher just crashes and dies right away when I run it in the Wine prefix via Heroic, and I once again don't see any hint in the Lutris script that the patcher executable is being run. And if it wasn't clear up until this point, I did download the 3 files at the top of the Lutris script and extract them to the Heroic game directory.

Are there any Lutris experts here who can help me figure out what I'm missing?

UPDATE: The fix was, of course, very simple. Thanks to @bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de! The thing that prevented it from working was the wsock32 override. Just because it's not in the list of library overrides, that doesn't mean you can't just type it in yourself. I've updated the PC Gaming Wiki with instructions for any time travelers from the future.

There is a community forming right now that aims to write a MOBA from scratch, mostly fueled due to the Vanguard incident on Linux. I am not affiliated with the project, but wanted to raise attention to it (as I am currently on cold League turkey since a month).

Hi all!

Would love for any tips for improving performance for my HTC Vive. I have a 1070 but still have a nauseating amount of stutter which kinda makes it unusable.

Thanks!

Edit: Worth noting that I'm seeing a bunch of pink lines on the SteamVR display graph.
