Because I didn't really know what i was doing when i first setup the matrix room it ended up being a bit of a mess and was hosted on a server outside of my control. This new room is currently just matrix, but I hope to bridge it to other services eventually.

Please join the new room here: https://matrix.to/#/#gravitywell:mx.ugh.im

Peertube's Channel sync feature imports videos from a YouTube channel/playlist to your PeerTube channel automatically. Sync checks hourly; initial full import of large channels can take hours but additional syncs are usually fast.

  1. Go to Channels > Synchronizations > Add synchronization.

  2. Fill form:

    • Remote channel URL: Paste public YouTube channel URL (or playlist URL). Get from under video title.
    • Video channel: Select your target PeerTube channel.
    • Options for existing videos: Choose "Import all existing" for full backfill, or "Watch for new only".
  3. Click Create.

After Setup:

  • Wait a few hours for initial sync (downloads/encodes videos).
  • New videos import hourly.
  • Monitor list in Synchronizations.

Manage:

  • Update: Delete and recreate sync (use "Watch for new" to avoid re-import).
  • Delete: In list, click button > Delete.

Admin Prerequisites

(Already done on peertube.gravitywell.xyz ) :

In Settings > Configuration > Basic > Videos:

  • Enable "Allow import with HTTP URL (e.g. YouTube)"
  • Enable "Allow channel synchronization with other platforms"

For more details see the official peertube docs

#GravityWellxYz new service: https://romm.gravitywell.xyz/ has been up and running for about a month. Now that Wizarr allows for easy account creation I’ve setup invite codes.

13000 GAMES and counting!

To create an account on Romm use the invite code: https://wiz.gravitywell.xyz/j/NTDOYSUX

To create a jellyfin account use this invite link: https://wiz.gravitywell.xyz/j/FCKNFLX

This post is an ongoing project to document all the many poor decisions of google's controlled opposition browser called "firefox" which is developed by the advertising firm known as "mozilla" (and technically in name, the Mozilla foundation)

In 2015 Firefox began including the service now defunct addon/service "pocket" as an integrated add-on, the first add-on to ever be bundled with their browser up to this point. This decision baffled many users at the time including myself. Many wondered why such a niche service was given such consideration ahead of much more desirable addons such as ublock or adblockplus. In hindsight we now know this is because bundling such adblockers would result in a near complete loss of funding for the project from google, with little hope of another advertiser like microsoft being interested in taking over.

In 2014 after just 11 days as CEO, proud bigot and vulture capitalist Brendan Eich stepped down due to the backlash Mozilla recieved over knowledge that Eich donated $1000 toward funding californias anti-gay marriage bill.

Eich is now CEO for the web browser Brave and continues to support fascist causes.

In 2014 Firefox "reluctantly" added DRM to the browser. This move while logical given the rise of services like netflix requiring it, was yet another nail in the coffin for open web standards.

For enabling nvenc support in peertube i had to add binds to the nvidia libs on host machine

services:
  peertube:
    image: chocobozzz/peertube:production-bookworm
    restart: unless-stopped
    container_name: peertube
    deploy:
      resources:
        reservations:
          devices:
            - driver: nvidia
              count: 1
              capabilities:
                - gpu
    ports:
      - 29511:9000
      - 1935:1935
    volumes:
      - /storage/peertube/data:/data
      - ./docker-volume/config:/config
      - /usr/lib/libnvidia-encode.so.1:/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libnvidia-encode.so.1:ro
      - /usr/lib/libnvcuvid.so.1:/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libnvcuvid.so.1:ro

Without the libs it should fallback to x264 cpu encoding.

I've added the mlmym front end for lemmy available at: https://old.ugh.im/ or via tor at http://rhmoebzw3x54opox6m6bdn7spn5prp7vapimdxufizuqv6zdnhanmhyd.onion/

This front end does not require javascript.

Seemed like a logical thing to be running given everything else.

Chat is architecturally designed to be forgotten. Messages flow by in streams and channels multiply until nobody knows where anything is. Important decisions get made in casual conversations that disappear into the archive.

The result is that organizations are getting dumber as they grow. Because community memory no longer exists in any accessible form. Everything lives in someone’s head until that person leaves or forgets.

We used to have forums. And forums had one massive advantage: you could find things. Threads had descriptive titles. There were categories. Search actually worked because the content was structured for retrieval.

That's what we've really lost: the idea that some conversations should be designed to last, that communities and companies need memory to function, that real-time and permanent aren't the same thing, and that we need both.

The alpha preview was fun but a bit too janky for regular use. User accounts and all that are reset but most of the old uploads should still be available in the primary library.

I wish we had a decent request system for music in place, if anyone knows of something like JellySeerr that can interface with either slsk, lidarr, and/or tidal-dl, please let me know.

All of the music content is also accessible via NaviDrome, mStream and Jellyfin so users can choose which they prefer.

I got tired of themes and just went with a minimalist white on black layout. I put the only indexes at index2.html and index3.html

I love your Jellyfin instance and Jellyfin is cool, but I prefer navidrome for music how would I signup for your navidrome?

A few months back after getting peertube up and running with streaming I figured it was probably a good idea to move the internet facing parts of all the services to an IP address that isn't owned by my home ISP. After a bit of research I ended up finding a pretty good deal with HostEons for a VPS with 2 cores and 8GB of ram which is more then enough for the basic reverse proxy and handful of small services i want running outside of my home network.

I've setup Anubis in from of several of the services in addition to taking some other steps to block bots which have been hammering parts of the site for weeks now.

Most cool for me is that I now have my own Matrix server running continuwuity with bridges to all the other corporate chat services that people i communicate with insist on using for some reason. For what are i think obvious reasons, this matrix server is not open to public signups, as much as i would like to give zero fucks about that, its probably the most ripe for potential abuse and the hardest to properly administer. That said, If anyone asked I'd probably be pretty liberal in providing invites, although unless you specifically want to be able to use the bridges i've setup, you'll be better off joining a more established server.

I noticed an issue lately with connections having a few seconds of lag once in a while, I'm still narrowing down exactly what causes it, but if you notice more stream interruptions then usual, thats why. UPDATE: This seems to be mostly resolved.

First a quick shout out to Libredirect which I plan to impliment as many services for as i can,

LibRed is setup, it seems to need frequent restarting and updating though.

HedgeDoc is now up at hd.ugh.im.

PrivateBin is now up and can be accessed on either privbin.gravitywell.xyz or pb.ugh.im. This is running on an alternate server at the moment but it will be moved to the main one.

I'm planning to put together some basic screencasts as I deploy various services. I'll probably work on something with a general overview of gravitywell and how things are setup first.

OpenSpeedTest has been running for a while but I realized I didn't have links up for it.

I tried to get Invidious working but it wasn't playing videos so i took it down until i feel like messing with it again.

Piped is now stup on both GravityWell and Ugh.im

Funkwhale released the first alpha of version 2.0.0 a couple weeks ago and I went to upgrade Gravitywell pretty much right away... after two weeks of not getting it to work, I started a brand new instance and it took the past 3 days importing the contents of the existing library. I wasn't able to migrate users or playlists but anything that was propery tagged should still be available. Feel free to upload again, but keep in mind this is an alpha build and there will be bugs.

Check out This blog post for the full rundown on whats new in 2.0.

Bonus: We now also have the same service linked at fw.ugh.im you can use either URL.

Last month I found myself selected for Jury duty on what ended up being a very serious criminal trial. This movie is a classic, and it now has an extra special meaning to me in that it really helped me to understand the "reasonable" part of "reasonable doubt".

The film is now available on both GravityWell's Jellyfin and Peertube.

To start off our new featured content, I'd like to share with you all one of the movies that inspired me in part on the creation of GravityWell.xYz:

Pump Up The Volume, is about a shy high school student who at night runs a pirate radio station as the rebellious DJ "Hard Harry," using his broadcasts to expose the corruption of the local high school and inspire fellow teens to rebel in their own ways.

Available on PeerTube

or in full HD on GravityFin

I'm honestly not really sure what to do with this. If people what to post suggestions, requests, complaints even? Go ahead and have fun.

I don't recommend using this lemmy instance to setup your primary account on, but you should be able to follow this community from any other lemmy instance that's federated.
