New list entries - updated October 2025:

Other recent entries

Introduction

NOTICE: I'm reuploading this as I lost my first account on lemm.ee. The previous version of this list is now deprecated.

I recently realized there are still, to this day, some actual "hidden gems" in the Play Store. Not the fake ones everyone talks about which, in a way or another, often have a catch or aren't very "hidden". I mean free games with no ads or IAPs of any kind that are fun to play.

So I was thinking maybe it's time to compile a list of them. Please suggest the ones you've found and enjoyed!

Edit: I'm now including free games (no piracy) from other sources beside the Play Store (which will be specified within brackets), such as GitHub or F-droid. If they're also FOSS, like all F-droid games, they'll have this green checkmark ✅️. For the games that have both F-droid and Play Store versions, the green checkmark is for the F-droid version.

I won't try them all as I did with my premium games list, because you could simply download and try them for yourself without spending a dime. I'll simply list them.

‼️Also, please do checkout MiniReview - Game Reviews for more free games that match the following criteria (use the "Browse" tab and select the correct filters). The same app for iOS - App Store - is here.‼️

I've saved this post so to keep it updated over time, for my own reference and for your benefit. So feel free to save it and check out new entries every so often.

Entry Criteria

  1. FREE
  2. NO ADS
  3. STRICTLY NO IAPs (except donation buttons, but I'll have to check first)
  4. NO PIRACY
  5. it has to be a legit, full game you've played and liked. No demos, no emulators (everyone knows RetroArch anyways)
  6. no entire repositories. You can recommend them in the comments if you want, but this list is for individual games you'd like to recommend
  7. if it's a Play Store game, it should be compatible with the latest Android version at the time of entry
  8. must include a link to the game, especially if from sources outside the Play Store. Not direct-download links, just links to the page
  9. sketchy sources won't be considered. Play Store, GitHub, and F-droid are welcome

[If you want to recommend paid games, without ads or predatory microtransactions, here is the list for you.]

A new leak suggests that Android 17 could offer more blur effects. Now, we've got a close look at these newly blurred elements.

Are there any currently maintained FOSS apps for continuous/periodic sharing of location? I am looking for something similar to Google Map's "Share My Location" option. All the FOSS apps I could find appear to be abandoned.

I've tried a few which have worked well but there are often decent features behind a subscription or it doesn't seem to fully tick the boxes for me. Niagra seemed to but the full version is a bit expensive.

I won't pay a subscription but will pay a reasonable amount for a good product.

I have found these minimal launchers to be useful but I'm hoping theres a more affordable, ideally FOSS option.

No ads, no tracking. Any ideas?

My SIRIUSXM subscription expired 3 days ago and I used that app to listen to comedy clips like from Bill Burr, Louis CK and others. It was a way for me on both my way to work and back from work, to relax and decompress some.

However, I'm not interested in going back to Sirius, at least not for a while. I get many e-mails from them to take advantage of a $5 for 1 year deals and that's going to wait. What I'd like to know, is if there's any app or station I can download, that has comedy stations and would work on Android Auto.

Because I've tried a couple times to download comedy stations I'd think would work through Android Auto, but their icons don't show up even when the app is loaded up.

Any ideas?

Hi everyone, especially those of you who have tried launchers I've never tried..

Like a lot of people I dropped Nova a while back, following the beginning of the inevitable decline, which seems to be continuing as expected.

I'm back on a stock launcher for now, and it's been fine but it lacks things.. I miss the good days of Nova and being able to tweak everything!

The problem I've had with launchers I've tried is that they either don't offer folders for the app draw, or if they do they don't work right.

For example, lawn-chair would have an icon in and an icon out of the folder every time an app updated. 🤔

Also, I have a work profile on my device, courtesy of Shelter. Launchers seem to struggle with this, muddling up apps or missing them entirely sometimes.

Can anyone suggest a launcher which can handle folders well, and a work profile without issues?

Thanks! T

Asus has reiterated that it will “no longer” be making “new” Android smartphones with its focus shifting towards the market built up by AI.

During its “2025 Year-End Gala” earlier this month, Inside reports that Asus chairman Jonney Shih directly confirmed that the company will exit the Android smartphone market.

When asked about the move, he said (translated) that “Asus will no longer add new mobile phone models in the future,” further adding that the company will “continue to take care of the brand’s mobile phone users.” This could be taken in one of two ways, with Asus either exiting the smartphone market altogether or just ending the development of new smartphone models beyond existing lineups, but in context, it’s clearly the former.

Further comments from the chairman revealed that Asus is shifting its resources away from smartphones in order to align with the “paradigm shift” that is… AI. Of course.

The company is apparently using the resources previously spent on mobile phones to bolster “commercial PCs and physical AI devices,” including “AI Robot & Robotics” and “AI Glasses.”

The latest update for the popular Nova Launcher app includes Facebook Ads and Google AdMob.

Compare 8.2.4: https://reports.exodus-privacy.eu.org/en/reports/698198/

With 8.1.6: https://reports.exodus-privacy.eu.org/en/reports/673643/

From 2 trackers to 6 trackers. From 30 permissions to 36. And two of the "trackers" are for ad stuff, like Facebook Ads.

I believe the owner also changed. It's no longer Branch, but something called Instabridge Sweden.
