So basically by keeping your Pixel 10 you're getting an upgrade over the new Pixel 11. Now, who said Google wasn't consumer friendly?

I appreciate that they've dropped the 128GB model, but paying more for less RAM highlights the sad state of tech right now π
I held onto my Pixel 3 until I got the Pixel 7, and always said I'd wait for the 11. The 12GB RAM is still an upgrade over my 7's 8GB, at least.
Reminder: never buy Pixels at MSRP. There will be great trade-in deals and sales in November, then again in January.

7a also works fine, I just don't use it that intensely. It's too damn small. But same chipset as Pixel tablet.
time for cleansing? I've got a P7pro on Graphene OS. Quite snappy
The Pro is quite a bit more capable.
Why?/Same processor and complaining about speed.

The principle still holds: get rid of unnecesary processes, and your phone should be faster and battery last longer

They're just trying to push Graphene/de-Googled OS. Every third comment on this Lemmy community does that.

7a GOS. A bit small, but works fine.
The feature I was looking for on the 8 pro was an extended support period for security updates. I'm running this thing until it dies. I hate getting rid of phones prematurely.
I broke my 8 pro and I miss it every day. It was a great phone. I liked it more than I like the 9. I bought the 9 on sale so I guess I can't be too mad.

I wouldn't pay more for less memory, regardless of why it was explained that it was happening. Older Pixels with more memory would be a better performer for less money.
I get that on the face of it it's a bad deal, but I don't think RAM capacity is the only factor in a phone's performance.
Given Pixel's longevity these days, I wouldn't expect Pixel 10 or even Pixel 9 users to be jumping to the 11 anyway.
Definitely not the only but with the memory heavy apps that I use, it's a huge factor.
I think I can probably get to the 12(used) before I decide to upgrade my 9. I'll pick one up once Graphene is released on it.
Do yourself a favour and just pay to replace your 9's battery. Would keep you going until the 13 or even 14. That's how I'm still using a Pixel 7 today.
I mainly want to upgrade for the improvements to the display, and for integrated MagSafe.
Does anyone realistically use 16GB of memory on their phone? I think my Pixel 8a has 6GB and I think I'm alright?
I edit photos from my DSLR in lightroom on the go, so yeah the more the merrier
I notice apps closing on my Pixel 7 with 8GB every now and again, but it's totally not a big deal for me. I can imagine certain users who swap between Reddit, Instagram and some game want more RAM, but most users won't care or notice.
Part of it is longevity too, right? With phones being supported for longer and longer you kinda want more of a headroom as apps and OS become more RAM-heavy.
This 12GB limit probably isn't going to stop me from upgrading, but I certainly wont be paying MSRP.
Apps will only keep getting ram hungry for little while due to inertia. But that era is over. Programmers got away with demanding more ram because ram was cheap. Each new device doubled or tripled their ram capacity every year. That era is over for good. Even if the LLMs bubble pops today, prices won't go down for the next decade at least. With these new devicesβconsoles, phones, computersβkeeping or even reducing ram capacity from previous generations, developers have no choice but to hold back their ram race.
Add: eventually the developers will have to optimize or there will be no market capable of running the software.
I hate it, but it's true.
When consumer prices tripled, sales didn't go down anywhere near the 2/3 where they'd only break even. Instead, sales only dropped 15-20%, so they got massive profit & revenue increases while providing less.
To the manufacturers, that's their signal that this is simply the new price.

Less battery on pixel fold is pretty horrible, considering the Razr Fold now has 6000 mah.

For some reason we use watt-hours for laptops but haven't managed to figure out how to do the same for "phones".
That's a mad battery. Not a lot of reasons so far to not go Motorola....
Still rocking the iPhone X, and wondering if I can hold out until their 20 year anniversary phone next yearβ¦. But GrapheneOS on a Pixel is tempting.

Yup 9 years old and still working though, banking apps still work but a number of apps I used to occasionally use are no longer working, but nothing critical.
I have a Pixel 10 and it is by far the most bug-ridden phone I've ever had. I thought Oneplus was bad...
It's no wonder that most Google employees use Iphones.
