I'm glad that cyberpunk is growing in TTRPG space. But does the established setting have enough meat for it to not be "just another cyberpunk TTRPG"?

Edit: I guess my point is: unless I don't know enough about the setting, I'd love this if they were picking an existing "transhumanist cyberpunk without space travel" ( there are quite a few, I don't remember the names now) system that fits the vibe/gameiness/narrativeness/w/e they want to get and just fleshed out the setting and slapped on the GitS brand to make the said system more popular

Crazy stuff!

But how is it moved? It copies the activities? Or really transfers them somehow?

Definitely check out feeds and notifications ( that little bell). Absolute game changers

I'm guessing that maintaining such forks would be prohibitive. Especially since they do have resources to play cat and mice

But I don't really know much about Android code, I'm just relying what I've heard

I think they got afraid such strict policy would put wind in the sails of Linux Phone initiatives

But I might be jaded

They reversed course, so it’s not an immediate issue.

I'm not convinced yet

Some article as I can't find my Xitter password to see the source

designed an "advanced flow" for installing unverified apps. This new system is specifically intended for developers and power users who have a higher risk tolerance and want the ability to download unverified apps.

It is not a casual toggle. The advanced flow is built to resist exploitation. The company emphasizes that the flow is designed to resist coercion, ensuring users aren't tricked into bypassing safety checks under pressure from scammers. Social engineering often walks victims through dismissing every warning on screen, so Google is adding friction that fights back.

That can very well mean we'll be compiling everything by hand and sending it via USB app by app

From what has been explained to me in some other posts, the issue is that most probably this will land on AOSP level from which all de-Googled androids fork. And with Linux phones not quite ready yet (I'm observing https://liberux.net/ though) that leaves us at their mercy

new notification subtype that just sends one notification for a new community being added to the feed

I think that in itself would not stop the notifications from backfill to flood notifications. I was rather thinking about suspending notifications from that community until backfill finishes. But I have not looked into PieFed code, no idea how much of a nightmare to address an edge case that would be

Look at the picture and imagine that guy is saying the words from the comment above it

When a community is not yet federated on the instance (or post is from before federation) enabling notifications for it makes backfilling of past posts trigger notifications too
I don't have an opinion if this is wrong per se but I think I've discovered an edge case that I decided to share

Scenario 1:

  1. I discover some communities on another instance that my instance doesn't know of yet
  2. I open my feeds and add them to a feed that has notifications enabled
  3. at this point communities are empty, backfilling of IIRC 50 last posts will happen soon
  4. wait a bit
  5. suddenly my notifications get drowned in past posts

Scenario 2:

  1. I have a community that has notifications on, either directly or via a feed
  2. out of the blue I get notification about some old post. Not a comment inside, the post itself. As if it was just posted. But all the dates inside are in the "far" past

I guess what happened in scenario 2 is that someone did "retrieve remote post"

Logically it makes sense but I guess it might be disorienting to some from pure UX perspective. I know of backfill and it does serve the purpose of showing that federation for community is working. But TBH what I expected was to start getting notified on new posts, not the old ones

On one hand, to me, addressing that feels like going after Pareto hard
On another, when someone migrates to a newly set up instance, that will be the behaviour of notifications

Sometimes I end up mindlessly scrolling yt shorts (not logged in). From time to time I get to a short that is clearly generated. Like the weird ones, often with animals, with drops of water appearing out of nowhere on the fur or front paws somehow transforming into hind ones, etc. And there, in the comments, very often are whole chains of comments that seem to completely be missing the fact that it's generated. Saying things "how wise it is to do that", "how cute", etc. It could be older generations not noticing the details (I see how my parents not notice those things) but I think most of those are probably bots. LLMs exchanging their "awww"s under generated videos. "Dead internet theory"

A New Jersey woman who was found bound with zip ties in the woods and marked with a derogatory phrase referencing President Donald Trump is now accused of staging the attack.

Natalie Greene, 26, is charged with conspiracy to convey false statements and hoaxes and making false statements to federal law enforcement.

According to court documents, Greene and a co-conspirator called 911 late July 23 and claimed that three men had attacked them on a trail at the Egg Harbor Township Nature Reserve. The co-conspirator told dispatchers the men referenced Greene by name and mentioned her job in politics. According to reports, Greene previously worked for a Republican congressman.

The upheaval of the manasphere following the the Disian Shadow War has brought significant changes to magic, changes that aren’t quite yet understood but already being seen and felt. Magic is both familiar and different.

This has just dropped in my notifications. It just so happens I recently read some part of Astral Ways and while I haven't followed Disian plot too closely, now I'm curious what they've cooked up. Their vision of metaplanes has some potential IMO
A bit too pricy for a curiosity purchase, though

Anyone had a chance to peek inside?

Ancient and modern, war-torn but prosperous, Cairo is a place where ancient customs and traditions walk hand-in-hand with the modern realities of the Sixth World. It’s a place of mystical power, opportunities, and vast riches for those bold enough to claim them. Here, fortunes and lives are often won or lost based on a single decision. And in the wake of a devastating shadow war, several corporations are looking toward Cairo to fortify and further expand their newly won power and influence … or to halt their imminent demise.

Risks and Rewards is a campaign book for Shadowrun, Sixth World.

NOTE: This product includes a PDF of the book and a PDF of the Cairo map.

A bit pricy but the region does not pop up often. I'm curious, especially if they added some magical threats fitting the area.
Or something area specific for the corps to scheme over?

Or at least did better job than most of the rest of non-Americas' lore

I had Monaco 2 on my watchlist. Now it’s on sale and it reminded me that I never really joined a multiplayer game in the first one. Because I’m afraid that being a noob I will ruin the game for everyone. Same with Due Process. Of course that is a vicious cycle where I keep being noob but don’t join a game out of fear of doing a noob thing. Not noticing something important, not timing something right, etc

Multiplayer in itself is not a problem, I have been playing other multiplayer titles. Both as a noob and a veteran. But the heist theme feels daunting

In a way I feel Payday was kind of easier in that regard because it was geared towards that “oops, I guess we are shooting now”

Has anyone had similar feeling? I probably should “just do it"
I feel like on the first game I should warn the lobby that I’m a noob, at which point I expect half of them to leave :D

I've been browsing f-droid when I noticed a bunch of apps like "Fossify calendar" that looked similar to apps starting with "Simple" - simple gallery, simple file manager, etc. I wanted to understand more on what are the ties and apparently, simple mobile tools are no good

So does someone know if Fossify are legit? Page looks iffy but code seems to be just forks.
Anyone has some info on them?
