Ah, neat idea!

Also, good to run into you again! I didn't realize you were the person who'd posted the JSON question until I saw multiple replies from you in my notifications, haha.

I STRONGLY agree with this. My notes have saved my ass many times! Even document the little commands you feel dumb for forgetting over and over. Just get over yourself and write them down; it's not any worse than googling for and opening that same stackoveflow answer for the nth time lol

I simply kept my notes in markdown files for a while and eventually turned those into a self-hosted wiki using Material for MkDocs. It's really convenient being able to access the notes from a webpage on any device on my network.

First of all, there might be more out-of-the-box tools out there for building dashboards that require little or no programming knowledge, but I've never used or looked for them. Microsoft's Power BI is one that I've heard of in passing, but fuck micro$lop lol. It's just the only example I can think of that might be more approachable. You could google something like, "open source power BI alternative" to find other options.

Here are a couple of tutorials about using Python to parse JSON:

That will only cover how to interact with the JSON data, but not how to build a dashboard, ofc. Displaying the data in some fashion (e.g. a web page) is a whole other set of tasks.

If you're new to programming in general, I recommend going through a collection of beginner tutorials on a programming language (Python is a good choice, but pretty much any will work for learning the basics). Any course like that will cover principles that apply to most languages and that would help you accomplish this task. For example, they'll cover things like reading to and from files, parsing the content of files, and doing shit with the content.

Here are a few Python courses/tutorial collections you can check out. You don't need to do all of them, but I wanted to give you some options so you're more likely to find one that you vibe with:

EDIT: Btw, you are definitly not limited to using Python for this. Lot's of other programming language will do. You just mentioned it, so I ran with that, haha.

Thanks! Haha I did!

I did it! Thank you for the inspiration and encouragement!

I was gonna use Cosmos for the case, but when I went to download my final design, it kept erroring 🙃 So, I went with Skeletyl instead. It's designed around a PCB, but I made it work for handwiring.

I took inspiration from a Joe Scotto video and got away with using one microcontroller by connecting the two halves with a network cable (plus one extra wire because I needed 9 total). I can only include one image in this reply, but might make a post about the build with more photos.

Oh that's great! I moved to colemak about a year ago due to hand/wrist/finger pain, and it's helped a lot. My average typing speed is probably about the same as it had been with qwerty. My highest typing test speed (which isn't very important) with colemak hasn't reached my highest qwerty speed, though.

My qwerty speed now? Garbage. I even have to look to type lmao

I really need to switch to an ergo split keeb though, because switching to colemak alone hasn't eliminated all of the pain. I've been inspired by your post and might (ADHD lol) get around to building one soon!

That's good to hear. Ew, hands are nasty, aren't they? If I actually end up doing this, I think I'll try printing the caps, but might end up buying some in the end. Thanks for the info!

I'm not the person you replied to, but how did it go? 😅

I'm new to this convo, but how's your typing speed, now?

Impressive build, btw! Still liking your keyboard? How have the 3D printed keycaps held up?
