The UN Population Fund warned that severe malnutrition among pregnant women and infants in Gaza will have long-term effects on future generations, as Israel’s war devastates the health system and causes extreme food and medicine shortages.

Around 70% of newborns are now underweight or premature, compared to 20% before the war, while neonatal units operate at 170% of capacity.

The Fund said malnutrition is the main threat amid the collapse of 94% of hospitals, with only 15% of facilities providing emergency maternity care.

It also noted rising maternal deaths, high-risk pregnancies, and increasing gender-based violence, including early marriage, stressing that over a quarter of Gaza’s population faces hunger, among them about 11,500 pregnant women.

Le parlement israélien refuse encore une enquête sur le 7 octobre : que cherchent-ils à cacher ?

Mercredi 22 octobre à la Knesset, le parlement israélien. Tous les membres issus de la coalition au pouvoir ont voté contre l’ouverture d’une enquête parlementaire sur le 7 octobre.

Cette commission d’enquête est réclamée depuis un an et demi par les familles des victimes israéliennes, réunies au sein d’un collectif nommé «Conseil d’octobre». Les proches de 200 personnes tuées veulent comprendre ce qu’il s’est passé ce jour là, et comment une telle attaque a-t-elle pu avoir lieu. Netanyahou et son gouvernement font tout pour removeder au maximum la création de cette commission et maintenir une opacité totale. Les familles ont appelé à manifester.

What Was the Latest ICJ Ruling on Israel and Gaza?

The advisory opinion by the International Court of Justice in The Hague found:

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) said that Israel has an obligation to ensure the “basic needs” of the population in Gaza.

Israel is obligated to support the relief efforts undertaken by the United Nations and its entities in the bombarded enclave.

This includes UNRWA, the UN’s agency for Palestinian refugees, which Israel banned from operating after accusing some of its staff of taking part in the October 7 resistance operation.

As part of its findings, the ICJ said Israel has failed to show evidence that UNRWA also worked for Hamas as it claimed.

Not to forcibly displace or transfer the population under its occupation, and to respect the prohibition of the use of starvation as a method of war.

It further stated that Israel must respect the right of Palestinian detainees to be visited by the International Committee of the Red Cross.

Speaking to Middle East Eye, Ammar Hijazi, Palestine’s ambassador to the Netherlands, said that it now falls on the international community to ensure Israel complies with international law and “not to allow it to continue with its genocidal tendencies, committing the crime of genocide, and colonisation of occupied Palestine.”
