there is no telling, most trump's stuff is federal/countrywide stuff!! oregon itself has been fairly trans-friendly. name change was not too difficult (despite us having very unusual circumstances!) and like in our city if you just tell your medical provider you are trans, they will get you a prescription of HRT the same day. they asked for literally zero information hehe, just went "okay how do you wanna take it" etc etc. if you have public (state) insurance they cover like any gender affirming care, from what we've heard (and for us even extra estradiol).

of course, there is ICE, not in our city but a nearby city. the gender-affirming care stuff outlined above is lots of mostly policy, and while it seems to have held true, the trumpster has elected to try and make all such care for trans people unfeasible on the federal level. oh also despite changing our gender identity legally we are probably not going to be able to get a passport with the female gender marker uwaaa

for privacy reasons we won't talk in depth about where we live in particular (not as a public post anyways, perhaps via direct message), but there are lots of queer folk here in our experience. those who live here (at least in the more western areas of oregon) seem to be quite friendly to trans people, but again the U.S. (federal) government really is not.

writing this in the morning so apologies if we're a bit unclear. then again so is the current state of trans rights here!

we are happy to talk more in depth in dm about our experiences if you wanna

here's how: attach numerals on your beloved local transfemme sub, lay out a fluffy carpet, set out some treats, and when you need a dice roll let her do the work for you

oh not in a very long while, our apologies. only when very young. more south germany though, but not since like age 5, and for only a few years. we currently live in oregon in USA. sorry...

you will get where you want to be eventually though, we believe in you <3

(then again we may be moving to germany oncemore in the not so distant future, so who knows!)

[–] kivihiili@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 1 week ago

oh we probably started about a year and some change ago. we did not implement any real change in our daily habits until a while later, i.e. a few months ago. kinda did it subconsciously when meowing at randoms over proximity chat in video games lol

we very much did sound masculine prior. not like super deep manly (we are more young and testosterone was nowhere close to running its full course) but certainly like a guy, we definitely didn't pass. thank you for asking, we so appreciate it!!

[–] kivihiili@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (3 children)

you sound more like a girl than not!! :D

the english part, most english speakers would focus more on the accent, but it sounds definitely not like a guy, still maybe androgynous? certainly feminine leaning a little. but that wouldn't be what they focus on. the russian part does sounds rather femme though!!

what we would say (at least for english) is to try to make a higher pitch towards the end of the sentence, like asking a question but not quite reaching there. here is an example of our voice in english: https://voca.ro/11bM00n99Z0n (a lower pitch ending first, higher pitch second)

text and text source

By the late Roman Republic, Old Latin had evolved into standardised Classical Latin.

(first sentence of second paragraph of this wikipedia page)

that aside though if we saw and talked to you in public we would mostly think "very cute pretty girl" hehe

circa half a day ago indigo made a post about their own voice, and that prompted us to open the voice analysis software and see what ours is like. so we just recorded a brief little sample and the pitch analysis showed 223 hz. we then went "huh, that seems a little more than we'd expect" and... turns out it was right.

so we tried talking while trying to put in as little effort as possible. and wouldn't you know it, it did not change at all, in fact it went up to 231 hz.

so we tried to make our voice lower. not really going for a masc voice but only lower, just because we were curious. and uh 182 hz, and still sounding so much like a girl!

so we tried to go for the most masc voice we could, like an announcer at a nascar race. and... 143 hz and still sounding androgynous.

(typical average pitch ranges)

there is not much consensus on this, but here is one regimen for spoken english:

  • "female": 155 hz and up
  • "androgynous": 135 hz to 165 hz
  • "male": below 145 hz

(the software we use is praat)

our point is that like we can barely do a masculine voice and even then can hardly sustain it.

don't be mistaken, we really love being able to just sound like a girl! but the loss of that ability has felt a little... frightening? not sure of the best way to put it. maybe its the realization that we are going to have to fully commit to female presenting, no matter what happens?

hope that regardless of what does happen we'll manage to find some way through it.

take care <3

it can be specific to body features common with being trans or just general photography technique in general, no matter how basic. example photos are ok, but we do not demand them. just thinking this would be a helpful thread to have !!

a tip of ours (for those femme-leaning at least):

having the camera from a more top-down perspective seems to make the jawline look a little nicer. this is true of most others in that they look skinnier, but it especially seems to bring out the femme look in our experience.

made with paper, glue, a memory card, and some colored pencils.

photo from around two and a half years ago

for those that don't get it

this is a flash memory card, and this specific one is a microsd memory card. however, back in ye olden days microsd cards were also called transflash cards (and sometimes still are today).

bonus photo with the cat ~~probably~~ definitely plotting something evil:

(face mask because insecure about physical appearance at the time)

other experiences with the laptop

trying out linux from scratch natively (two years ago):

flashing libreboot (bit over one year ago, our room is not this depressing anymore. we have since discovered furniture):

"new" quad core processor!! (thnx libreboot for intel 3000 series support)

other details for those curious

we got the laptop (lenovo thinkpad t420) a few years ago for fifty dollars in remarkably good condition. the keyboard developed a fault in shipping seemingly, and the only other keyboard the seller had on had was JIS layout, so thats why japanese key legends. came with eight gigabytes of memory!!

the disk is 256 gigabytes (solid state), and the processor we upgraded from some dual core intel 2000 series to a quad core i7-3820qm, through the power of open source firmware. it also came with the high res screen option!

for software, we run artix linux, and also had our fun with linux from scratch (compiling all the packages gets old though when you're dealing with x11... blegh). the user environment is just i3wm, configured to a reasonable extent but not really with any add-ons. and yes we use vim why wouldn't we :3
