@serpineslair You are right. And a pinch of Exodus when it comes to the vocals.

Exumer - Hostile Defiance

I always take a special look at the album openers when I listen to new records. When I discovered this LP, I really liked this one.

A very nice mix from being mean and using melodies as well.

Good thrash band from Germany who failed to start a great career. When the head out in the beginning I should say they were better than Kreator/Sodom at that time.

So what - enjoy: https://tidal.com/browse/track/102941394?u

Agent Steel - Unstoppable Force

Friday night - it’s time for a classic.

Alien-themed speed metal with outstanding vocals. I can understand when the voice is a little too much for some listeners, however IMO Agent Steel wouldn’t be themselves without John Cyriis.

Guitars are magnificent, too. You can still hear the NWOBHM roots (Rager), but also their transition to speed/thrash.

Altogether a blast from the past and a gem from the 80s.

Got myself the vinyl version of the new Coroner album “Dissonance Theory”.

It’s a masterpiece, no less.

Mostly not pure thrash metal anymore, but something as if Pink Floyd would have been influenced by Meshuggah.

Atmospheric. Ripe. Evolved. Grand.

Khirki (media.metalhead.club)

Khirki

IMO one of the best albums of 2024 in the metal scene. Greece’s Khirki deliver it all - melody, speed, originality through Greek folk influences and panache.

My faves are The Watchers of Enoch and Father Wind. Actually there are only really great songs.

@PennyRoyal Yeah, they are good and trigger the mind. 👍🏻

Boss Keloid - Family the smiling thrush

“Odd” is the word that always comes to my mind when I listen to Boss Keloid. I envision a bunch of woodland gnomes making strange and stubbornly original prog metal. And I mean this very respectfully.

Hard to describe post-something , but very good.

Lamb of God - Sepsis

New single which sounds a bit stitched together to me. First part is Megadeth blues, then follow a few seconds of Lamb of God. The end is breakdowns.

Hm.

Kreator- Seven Serpents

Kreator’s productions have become fat and bloated. This one is no exception.

How I miss the sharpness and dryness of “Extreme aggression”.

Iron Walrus - Tales Never Told

Doom/Sludge with an exceptionally raw voice. The music is really nice, even if it’s not very original.

However the singer makes all the difference. He must have a rain pipe installed in his throat. Or maybe he is the older brother of Panzerfaust’s Goliath.

All in all a really good record to listen to if you like your doom a bit rough.

Wayfarer - American Gothic (media.metalhead.club)

Wayfarer - American Gothic

IMO the (now) perfect blend of Black Metal and Americana. Wayfarer have been trying to interpret Black Metal on the grounds of Wild West vibes for years now. And this record now nails it.

I am regularly surprised how well BM mixes with other musical styles.

Link is the opener The Thousand Tombs of Western Promise. Also check out The Cattle Thief.

Great album cover by the way.

Bonded - Rest in Violence

Consisting of ex-Sodom members plus Assassin’s vocalist and a guitarist from Suicidal Angels this is kind of a supergroup (in underground measures).

Fine thrash mixed with some groove metal. Many, many riffs and excellent drumming. Sometimes you can hear that the material was written for Sodom, however it would have been so different that Angelripper said Njet. Good for us cause we have a good new band.

The title track features Blltz from Overkill.

Ratos de Porao from Brazil deliver a punk influenced thrash album with a raw and vital atmosphere.

In 1991 when this record came out it was something different and a little exotic. IMO it’s fun to listen to, a little raw and unpolished. The Portuguese lyrics do add a nice touch to the music.

Darkness - Blood on Canvas

Highspeed thrash with a punky fuck-off attitude by another veteran band from Germany.

Darkness let Kreator (then still known as Tormentor) use their rehearsal room, because they had lost theirs. The respective careers went in different directions later on.

Check out this record if you can use some melody in your thrash menu.

@tatann you are right. But that may change in the future. A new album is coming out in September, I think.

@Bourff Lucky you 👍🏻

@thagoat Yeah, the new video “cronenberged” is also nice.

@Myr thanks mate, just posted it 🤘🏻

@serpineslair By the way - I just read an interview with Angelripper. He said he plans to retire. No more concerts, no further plans for Sodom.

[–] RUMetal@metalhead.club 3 points 5 months ago

@mndflayr @pulsewidth @Myr will be very different, that‘s for sure. Let‘s hope the best.
