Glad you asked because it was not enough for me...let me give you 3 important reasons:

  1. Gnome wellbeing doesn't have per app limits enforcer and per app usage
  2. focus mode (with pomodoro upcoming in next version u can check beta) not present which locks out selected apps like android
  3. this aims to be a digital wellbeing application integrating all android features + more in the long run, so in the next few years or so with the help of the community i aim to make it into full fledged digital wellbeing with parental controls etc and also extend to othe DEs like kde etc

I made this app from personal feeling of missing out features

Thank you ๐Ÿ˜Š

Pardon me I didn't make it clear , i meant that I am just getting started with sharing Going to change the body to make it clearer Thanks for pointing out

Note that i made this for myself and I am just getting started sharing an application in lemmy platform.

What is ScreenGuard?

ScreenGuard is not just a screen time tracker But a Digital Wellbeing application, currently in the making.

Came up with this application with one aim in mind...To Control daily limit for myself as my doomscrolling had worsened quite a lot even while working. So decided to make this as an alternative to Digital wellbeing on Android.

Some Key features :

* focus mode

* per app daily limits

* background daemon

so far i was able to make it work only on GNOME mutter and all x11 because that is my system...will consider updating in future if this receives positive reviews

I use fedora 44 workstation and it runs perfectly for me...and also tied it on manjaro and linux mint on my VMs with x11 , worked there too....so please check for yourselves and do tell me how it goes

NOTE: if you are a dev then please feel free to contribute as this is a very tedious long term project. Any help is great help especially because I want to keep the main codebase clean from llm generation and maintain for basic debugging purpose only conduct in this project.

Please feel free to contribute as this project needs several more improvements and doing it alone is a long tedious process...so if you feel that it's worth it do contribute as I don't want to contaminate the code base by using llm for code base and adding any code...it's the philosophy of this project: AI for basic debugging or assistance only

Sure will make that clear in README as well... probably after some time because I need to recall...but hey I think I did make agents (debugging) file which shows the bugs patches with llm

If KDE users support it then we'll sure ...why not ...it either ways is in development...I am planning to add something like do not disturb and other android like features too...so ...yes....btw if using x11 in kde isn't an issue...then u can use it in kdetoo(although I think that would be like switching so yeah nvm) TLDR: Working on it pal....will try to add atleast kde and cinnamon support by end of this yeah...and sway , hyprland etc too but will take till next year I guess.....let's see

Yes it is GNOME...and..well it's quite simple extensions

I did try out activity watch myself but that didn't have digital wellbeing control like daily timer and focus mode sooo.....yeah

It isn't vibe coded friend I have worked on it personally and can assure you it's not vibe coded...just fixed certain anonymous bugs with llm when I got tired... There has been a backlash I know but it's just what it is...thank you
