Just for reference, here's an alphabetical list of countries which broadcast executions:

  • Afghanistan
  • Iran
  • Iraq
  • North Korea
  • Saudi Arabia
  • United States
[–] answersplease77@lemmy.world 39 points 6 days ago (1 children)

These do public executions yes but even they don't broadcast it live.
Only Mexican cartels and ISIS broadcast snuff flims, and now the US is on that list too.

[–] in4apenny@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

You say that as if Mexican cartels and ISIS haven't been US products all along.

[–] Stigger32@aussie.zone 3 points 6 days ago

Don’t forget Al-Qaeda and Hồ Chí Minh! Both products of US intelligence agencies training, and equipping. Until they were dropped. And left to get angry at those same agencies that used them!

[–] tankiesmasher@aussie.zone 9 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Iraq and Saudi Arabia don't do public executions these days, and none of them besides the US live stream them. Apparently they're the first country to ever do it.

The real problem is the reasons some of these countries condemn people to death, regardless of the barbarism they engage in while carrying it out.

The US's actions are only notable because they are held to a higher standard, rightly so.

[–] arbilp3@aussie.zone 4 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I don't think the US empire is held to a higher standard. I say this holding nothing against everyday US citizens. I mean the power structure of the US has been mistrusted for a very long time but because of their financial/military power, most countries have bowed their heads to them. Not necessarily out of respect.

It is the propaganda narrative which every US citizen grows up with that makes them think they have a high standard.

ISIS does it = terrorism.

US Gov does it = justice.

[–] TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 14 points 6 days ago (34 children)

ISIS

US Gov

They're both the same.

Dude, just ban all content coming out of our country at this point.

[–] switcheroo@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago

The Pedo-in-Chief would throw feces at the walls if a country stopped talking about him/ boycotted all the bullshit coming from the US.

It's a good idea.

[–] stylusmobilus@aussie.zone 3 points 5 days ago

We can’t. You’re pushing it onto us. CPAC is an example. We don’t want it either.

How about you blokes fix your shit.

[–] Pratai@piefed.ca 28 points 6 days ago

Everyone needs to ban this barbarism.

[–] ziltoid101@lemmy.world 12 points 6 days ago

The bar is so low and they still find ways to sink it deeper. Imagine telling people from 15 years ago about this happening...

[–] MisterFrog@aussie.zone 15 points 6 days ago (1 children)

This is where I find the Greens not effective.

Banning it from being livestreamed is impossible and will do nothing.

The government should be condemning the US government for still having the death penalty, and use this as an opportunity to make the arguments to why the death penalty is stupid.

And further why it's so important for us to not be wholly in bed with the US on everything.

[–] Ilandar@lemmy.today 13 points 6 days ago (4 children)

This is where I find the Greens not effective.

Very strange criticism for a minor party that is not in government.

The government should be condemning the US government for still having the death penalty, and use this as an opportunity to make the arguments to why the death penalty is stupid.

Is this supposed to be your very sensible, realistic alternative? Have you been paying attention during the last decade of Australian/US relations?

And further why it’s so important for us to not be wholly in bed with the US on everything.

This is the position of The Greens, and has been for years.

Backward shithole.

[–] FreeBooteR69@lemmy.ca 13 points 6 days ago

Uncivilized barbarians.

[–] arbilp3@aussie.zone 8 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I truly hope it's not us but Americans who say NO and demand it not be filmed for public consumption at all.

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 8 points 6 days ago

I overheard a big maga guy at work ranting about how insane it is. It's hilariously unpopular which means it's going to happen

[–] naevaTheRat@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Everyone should know the terror of the usa.

This is what they've always been, whether it's a charismatic or bumbling killer on their throne.

The world should unite against their barbarism.

Did you also know he is paralysed from the chest down, is in constant pain, and incontinent. He will be shot in a wheelchair.

Is that so bad? At least it guarantees death; unlike other methods.

Wouldn't this type of content already be "refused classification" thus disallowed to be broadcast?

[–] Nath@aussie.zone 4 points 6 days ago (4 children)

A website is not a broadcast. So, it can (and would) disallow the content from being broadcast on TV. But not from a webpage.

While we are at discussing the idea, it kinda won't work. You can block all of the Internet or none of the Internet. You can't block some of the Internet. If you 'block' a site from Australia, people can and will simply VPN to another country and access it there.

Play it live on every channel, every screen in the country. Put it on repeat. Show it on street corners and in pubs. Show it in primary schools and high schools. Everyone should see what we're endorsing by being a US client state. Let those who want to revel in their inhumanity go over every sick detail with glee.

[–] shirro@aussie.zone 8 points 6 days ago (6 children)

Yep. Show the homeless. Show the millions in penal servitude. Show the working poor. Show the communities racked by drugs and violence. Show the school massacres. Show the executions. Show the lynchings. Show the Epstein files. Even most Americans don't know the truth of their country.
