My girlfriend's son is 12. I can confirm that people watch Mr. Beast videos.

I've never seen one of his videos. Back when I first heard of what he does, I thought it was some kind of satirical social commentary where everyone that participated did so as part of that goal. Later I learned that it's all seriously real, and that blew my mind. He disgusts me.

I've never seen one, but every time I see this guy mentioned, it's not in a positive light

I thought it was a joke also, until Mr. Beast snacks started showing up in my supermarket.

Which I took as yet another sign we're in the bad timeline.

The Squid Game one is fascinating from an organization and planning perspective and I loved seeing BTS of how it was put together on such short notice.

Around 3 years ago or so the vibes of the videos started to feel off, and the content all started to feel the same, so I dropped checking out new videos.

It's mostly kids, ain't it?

Yup. My nephew loves Mr Beast and I can't figure out how to save his soul without insulting his parents.

Eh, go for it. They're adults, they can handle it.

[–] derry@midwest.social 2 points 16 hours ago

I wouldn't be so sure about that. Some adults are merely adults physically.

Many of the younger ones talk like youtubers or streamers, and make one-sided comments to their nonexistent "Chat" in real life. It's a total mindset for millions of em

Chat. Teenagers acting like they have an invisible audience was a common phase in development way before live-streaming. But Chat, live-streaming made it way worse coz it feels normal, and relatable, so it's worse now, and they are taking longer to grow out of it. Chat.

[–] fyzzlefry@retrolemmy.com 2 points 22 hours ago
