You go to a physical store and buy a toilet plunger.

That might seem like a waste of money, but getting a cheap plunger at a dollar store is going to be much less stress than figuring out places to go to the bathroom.

Why can't you ask the apartment manager if you can borrow a plunger? You have a problem, deal with it. There is no shame it happens to everyone at some point. If you worry about what they think and they ask say a friend plugged it.

I also agree with the other post saying to just buy one at the dollar store. You don't "order" things you need right now.

Learn to be an adult and talk to apartment manager and/or buy a plunger at a physical store.

How you can unclog your toilet. Glove up and nut up.

Nah, i nutted up by asking a responsible adult to haalllpp!

For real though, it takes courage to ask for help, good job.

Go to a local store and buy a plunger.

Or have the facilities manager handle it. It's why you pay rent.

I did end up asking management πŸ™ˆ, got one on the way for future

Straighten out a coat hanger but leave a U-shaped hook at the end. Send that down there after it. Or just go buy a plunger at the nearest store.

A few things you can try. Simplest is to keep the water level high, let the weight and movement of water keep pressure on the clog and slowly work it through. I've done this for a clogged sink as well. If the water level is dropping a little, that's good, there's a small hole somewhere and continued water moving will erode it bigger until it gives way.

Quicker way is to find something long, flexible, and probably disposable that you can use to get around the bend and push and poke away at the clogged area. You just have to get it around the curve, and it won't even take much of a hole to get water to move and help.

If it's only organic, pour bleach on it or, better yet, sodium hypochlorite. It will dissolve pretty much all that should go down a toilet.

or, better yet, sodium hypochlorite.

If they don't even own a plunger, what would lead anyone to believe they have a jug of that just lying around?

[–] qyron@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 month ago

General cleaning, desinfection, washing clothes?

It is a basic household chemical, common bleach.

[–] BCsven@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

What if all their cereal bowls are plunger heads? Then they might have a chance.

[–] qyron@sopuli.xyz 4 points 1 month ago

I find myself split between horror and admiration and am in doubt if I should applaud you or call the internet police.

[–] CompactFlax@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Household bleach is sodium hypochlorite.

Also if it doesn’t work - and I’ve no reason to see it would, in a reasonable timeframe - instead of it merely being gross, it will be a clogged toilet full of bleach.

[–] qyron@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 month ago

Household bleach is diluted sodium hypochlorite. Usually, in a 1 to 10 ratio, if not more. Bleach can give a rash, sodium hypochlorite can cause serious burns.

Put a bunch of toilet paper on top, and then use a toilet brush to shove the blockage down. The toilet paper should hopefully keep the brush (or any other object) clean. Once you get it past the ubend it should free up and flow normally.

You can also use a rubbergloved fist, or some other longish object.

I dunno what kind of witchcraft this is, but 5 mins after typing that response my partner dropped something in the toilet that I had to retrieve by hand...

Wash your hands afterwards.

Actually the real trick plumbers don't want you to know is that fast setting concrete will dissolve clogs. You just need to work quickly.
