I will finally live up to my name and share a bean recipe. I use an instant pot pressure cooker to make these beans:

  • 1 cup beans (dry)
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 tsp ground cumin (?) - I usually eyeball it
  • 1 tsp chili powder (?) - I usually eyeball it
  • 1 tbsp granulated chicken flavor (Totole brand, ~2200mg sodium)

All I have to do is hit the bean/chili button and it's done in 30 min! If I want to improve the flavor further I cook it on the stovetop with oil / fat of choice. I'm not sure how accurate the spice amounts are.

Does anyone have their own simple bean recipe?

My favorite is:

  • Roughly chop up an onion and brown it in the instapot on sauté.
  • Add a good amount of soaked black beans. I prefer soaked because otherwise the farts furrow the brow of God.
  • 1 small can of chipotle peppers in adobo. I prefer La Costeña. Dump on top and snip the peppers up with kitchen scissors (saves getting adobo all over a cutting board).
  • Add a couple chipotle cans of water. The water is needed and also this lets you get every drop of the mana from heaven that is adobo.
  • Stir up and cook on high pressure 30-40 mins.
  • Once done (but still hot) stir in fragile spices like garlic. Add a splash of vinegar. Also the time to add anything sugary like maple syrup or brown sugar (doing it beforehand can burn). A good time to stir in a big hank of chopped kale or arugula. A can of corn goes well too.
  • Salt to taste (the adobo has a ton already, so be warned)
  • Inhale so much the next day you take a shit like a heroin addict.

If you aren't that into spicy food you can skip snipping the chipotles and then fish them out when the beans are done.

I like spicy food but would probably try it un-snipped first. I will be trying this in a few days!!!!!!! Thanks
