Angine de Poitrine, the masked and ornately costumed band from Saguenay, Que., has won the 2026 Polaris Music Prize.

The anonymous duo received the accolade and $30,000 for their second album, Vol.II.

[...] Angine de Poitrine also took home the song prize, a joint award from SOCAN and Polaris that goes to the best Canadian song of the year, beating out Charlotte Cornfield, Pup, Charlotte Day Wilson, Patrick Watson and Martha Wainwright.

The band's song Fabienk won the $10,000 prize, as voted by the Polaris jury.

They're not eligible for Eurovision, because that competition requires songs with lyrics.

Good for them. They recently played at the Winnipeg Folk Fest and my excited grandson was telling me all about them afterwards.

My brother saw them at Guelph's Hillfest festival this summer, and they left after two songs because they didn't understand it. The music is not for everyone.

I agree. I checked them out on Youtube afterwards and I guess I've been conditioned by melodic pop music because I couldn't get into their offerings. That doesn't make them bad, that just makes me out of touch. I couldn't look away while watching them though.
