TL;DR It's copyright.

Apparently the archive's crawlers have been able to access material that is paywalled in a regular browser and that's got copyright holders' panties in a bunch.

That only incentivizes people to use Tor more ,to get around bullshit bans. Nothing can truly be banned if you know the minimum necessary to "unban" yourself.
