They are very generous with aliases too: 25 mailbox aliases, 50 custom domain aliases. Compare to Proton, which allows only 10 non-revocable aliases for their domains and custom domains combined.
This is on my eval list, though I'm thinking Runbox is above it due to the unlimited aliases/etc. I also like their sub-account pricing structure.
Check Posteo. Working great for me since I left gmail.
Posteo is also my choice. It's now not only my main E-Mail adress, but also my sync for calendar and adressbook. When i decided not to use Google any more several years ago i considered hosting my own server or use a service. I ended up with Posteo and so far never regret it. Paying 1€/month is a better deal for me than maintaining my own server, as they use their own server which are located in Germany and seem to be really trustworthy.

Never heard of them. But their website says "try ad-free". That implies that they display ads after the trial!? If that's the case, they can't be trusted.
No, they want to emphasize that the trial is ad free. After the trial you need to pay, but it's still ad free

Any provider which provides IMAP and SMTP over TLS is good. If you want privacy, you have to use E2EE through a mail software which supports it. However, I personally use riseup.net(Don't ask me for an invite code!)
As a bonus, there is also DeltaChat which provides E2EE email in a nice chat interface. https://delta.chat/ It also supports mini apps through https://webxdc.org/
