Greece agreed to a โ‚ฌ3 billion air defense deal with Israel and they won't get the source code for the command-and-control system. So Greek engineers can't maintain or upgrade it on their own. they have to rely on Israel.

Greek defense minister Nikos Dendias said in July that becoming a "hostage" to even the friendliest ally is "absolutely impossible." But that's exactly what this looks like. Israel's Missile Defense Organization director Moshe Patel was asked if Greece gets the source code. He said: "No. Because the source code was not included in the license to use the agreement."

Israel's defense ministry later said Israeli know-how would go to Greek companies so they can develop a "Greek source code." But the original answer was no. And the system is still built on Israeli tech.

So Greece is paying โ‚ฌ3 billion to a foreign supplier and can't fully control the thing. That's not sovereignty. That's dependency.

And this is a country that's supposed to be in the EU. Why is it buying weapons from Israel at all? Greece should not be giving money to Israel. I think giving money to Israel right now is wrong. The ICJ is looking at genocide charges. Greece shouldn't be funding this.

If you're European, you should ask why your union is okay with this. Why is a member state doing deals like this? Why isn't anyone stopping it? These money should go to european alternatives.

Are you telling me with a name like "Achilles" no one expected a fatal flaw?

Interests seem to be more important than Genocide for some Greek politicians

Is โ‚ฌ3 billion rental agreement for "critical" things like this ever going to make sense? FOSS or bust for any critical where not owning is a hostage situation.

The idea of funding the active partipant of a genocide should make peoples skin crawl too

I see a lot of stupidity, bribes and enabling genocide.

I looked up how Greece is on the corruption perceptions index nowadays. It's better than before but still not great at place 56 of 182.

The numbers are from last year survey. I'd expect this year be different.

Credit where credit is due, if itโ€™s proprietary as in, military developed it itself, and they control that, I feel thatโ€™s fair to safeguard.

Each โ‚ฌ contributes to Zionists' crimes.

How the fuck is it allowed to have proprietary stuff in military applications? You need this stuff to work.

But elsewhere..

How's this for a headline:

The Greek government wasted 3 billion in taxpayer money for a defense system they won't be able to use or further develop without 'Israeli' consent.

Yeah. ๐Ÿ’ฏ . They should prefer the European system over Israel! Each โ‚ฌ contributes zionist crimes

I hope they learn the lesson, an expensive one to say the least. They essentially been ripped off.

Erdogan and Israel are nearly shooting at each other in Syria. Obviously Greece is thrilled about that. Add to that oil and gas fields in the Med, where Israel and Greece have joined forces to keep out the Turks and you have a pretty good idea why Greece likes Israel so much.

Erodogan is a coward, he is letting Israel do whatever it want in Syria
