I've always looked to avian embryology for an answer to this question. The developing embryo starts with cells that will be chicken and later add cells that will become egg.
Therefore I've taken chicken to be the correct answer.

From the line of the last chicken genetic predecessor, when it laid an egg, was that egg a chicken's egg since a chicken hatched from it, or was it a chicken predecessor's egg?
This is also going to depend on what you mean by egg… as, for instance, soft eggs came way before crunchy eggs.
