HaveIBeenFlocked.com compiles Flock audit logs, allowing users to type in their license plate number, and the website returns information on search results, including whether or not a Flock system operator has searched the database for their license plate.

The audit log includes the stated reason that someone in law enforcement gave in order to look up the license plate, but doesn’t include if or when your vehicle passed one of the Flock cameras.

😂 It's less funny that people fall for this shit. Sadly, I almost once fell for a phone scam from indian scammers pretending to be from my bank to try and get my bank card numbers. Luckily I realized it once he was asking for card numbers. I work for a government entity and am getting constant phishing attempts

The hint is always in the email address.

give my personal license plate to a third party website to check against privacy invasion

nah, y-you guys go first

There's a lot of could-be's involved here.

[–] IphtashuFitz@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

So start feeding it lots of random 2 to 8 letter/number strings.

[–] palordrolap@fedia.io 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Start with "NOPLATE", "NCC1701", "XXX" and "NULL".

There might be others that have ended up in the news as a result of human (police or programmer) error, but just those four over fifty States is a good 200 to start with.

Go drive/walk by your local police station and note all the plates of unmarked cars in the area. Many of them are likely police vehicles or private vehicles of employees. Do the same near a courthouse. Use those as fodder for this tool.

I’ve seen a minivan with the little sticker family on the back with flashing red and blues. Their pretense at being law upholding bastions creaked and broke that day for a little white boy

Cops are the enemy and they need to named and shamed as loudly as possible. One reason they’ve been getting away with so much shit is the people simply don’t talk to their neighbors.

Exactly why i don't put the license plate on my car, can't let anyone see that sensitive information

[–] Trampampoline@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 days ago

That's not my point. Everyone drives, thus you see everyone's license plate.

Not everyone goes and exposes their home IP to a third party, enters their license plate(or worse, someone else's) and gets each one put on some secret government watch-list.

[–] fyzzlefry@retrolemmy.com 1 points 2 days ago

Just plug in some assholes plate first to test.

[–] frongt@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

I put in the plate from my previous car, and a few others I knew from random people. No results on any.

Edit: also, it doesn't have any fields for state or type of plate. Does this mean that Flock also confuses them?

[–] YouTalkinToMe@lemmy.world 39 points 2 days ago

Thank you for checking your licence plate. Your action of checking your licence plate and the licence plate involved will be reported to the authorities for evaluation.

I've invented a credit card fraud checker. Just reply to my comment with your credit card number and I'll let you know if it's been stolen.

Is there any actual evidence that this is a trap/, honeypot like everyone is saying?

[–] Ilovethebomb@sh.itjust.works 41 points 3 days ago (4 children)

Something I find interesting about this is, there's no verification that you do indeed own the plate you're searching. I'm not sure what mischief you could get up to knowing that the police searched for information on someone else, but it's something to think about.

[–] Trampampoline@sh.itjust.works 23 points 3 days ago

Honeypot as fuck

[–] Armok_the_bunny@lemmy.world 22 points 3 days ago

I prefer that to there being some requirement that you provide identification to access the audit logs. Actually, what I would really prefer would be for there to be no need for audit logs in the first place, if there were no system to be audited.

[–] Multiplexer@discuss.tchncs.de 14 points 3 days ago

The first thing that came to my mind also.

This sounds like another privacy nightmare put on top of the already more than questionable Flock installations.

[–] JensSpahnpasta@feddit.org 10 points 3 days ago (1 children)

It also allows criminals to check if they are already under the eyes of the police. Want to do a drug run? Check if somebody has tracked your vehicle beforehand!

[–] Ilovethebomb@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Ooh, that's a good point. Time to get a new car, they know about this one.

[–] BigPotato@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

You just steal plates from another car. Bonus points if you can find the same model. Most people don't check their front and back every time they hop in - just snag their front plate and swap.

[–] Ilovethebomb@sh.itjust.works 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

That's a risky move though, if you get caught driving a car with stolen plates, you're in trouble.

[–] Whostosay@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 days ago

Someone must have nicked my mine and swapped them

[–] Funkt4st1c@lemmy.world 19 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Wouldnt it be wayyyy better if the government was forced to give you a reason as to why theyre stalking you, that was sent in the mail automatically? I understand that could harm longterm investigations but also it would help expose/prevent abuse.

Maybe dont rely on AI tools if youre building a massive case against someone

[–] VictorPrincipum@sh.itjust.works 11 points 2 days ago (1 children)

There's a simple solution. If they want to track/stalk you and dont want you to know, they can get a warrant. Obviously, this can still be abused, but now the guy stalking his ex has to get a judge to agree to stalking his ex which could backfire on the judge if the stalker decides to act on any flock/axon info.

[–] frongt@lemmy.zip 13 points 2 days ago

They're already supposed to have a warrant before they do any searches. These articles are just confirmations of them violating your rights.

"New website let's drivers check their friends and neighbours cars because they can't mind their own fucking business."

[–] daychilde@lemmy.world 16 points 2 days ago

Wait until you find out things like arrest records are public

Go Flock Yourself! Nice try.
