For the record I am a daily pedestrian and my close-calls with being hit have gone from never in my life to basically every day

Im getting genuine anxiety about crossing the street now because I keep getting driven into even though it is my pedestrian light. Article is an editorial but I can attest to a ramp up in danger from vehicles, and our pedestrian deaths have skyrocketed from their previous record (15) to 40 and the year isnt even done yet.

Even a lot of the 'e-bike' deaths are because ... an e-bike/car collision.

To be fair I have a number of clients who work ER and apparently lack of helmets is a huge driving force in e-bike deaths

But absolutely cars just arent looking and theyre so big now the outcomes are worse

Big, and fast. The number of times I heard about someone getting caught doing nearly double the posted speed limit since 2020 has gone up by an order of magnitude, and it seems like the government's best idea to fix things is just keep raising speed limits. I will grant that's anecdotal I can see a valid argument for making speed traps harder to set, but we need to replace those with something, because it's getting ridiculous how poor driving enforcement is encouraging the worst driving behaviour.

Honestly I think they should bring average speed cameras here. They would be very effective on a few choice corridors.
