Reddit being absolutely horrendous is what moved me to this site. I wish there was more people and more prominent communities though.

I discovered Lemmy last week. Lurked for a while, then finally created an account. The experience is much better than Reddit so I say good riddance.
Welcome!
Yay! Welcome! I'm pretty new too and I find the quality of conversation much higher over here.
Le narwhal eats bacon at midnight! An updoot for you, good sir! You are a gentleman and a scholar. That’s a heckin cute pupperino, too precious do not deserve!
EDIT: Thanks for the gold, kind stranger!
To make you feel as if you never left

I'm so happy they started doing this. They made me want to really start switching to Lemmy
Yep loved old.reddit but nope, no more. Happy to be a Lemmyor now 😀 or whats the correct term? Lol. Cheers!
Reddit has some cool communities that don’t quite exist elsewhere, and even though I’ve found old-school forums for some of them, the vibe is different (usually older people who are often retired and can’t envision not having money or free time).
I used to pay a sub to Reddit but stopped back when they shafted Apollo. I wonder how things might have gone had Reddit focused on its community rather than the sad process of enshitificafion.
Reddit is unusable without old reddit. Reddit.com is a horrible user experience.
https://redlib.catsarch.com/ <- this works for me but, like most comments are saying, reddit became a stinkhole of bots, agendas and stealth advertising. it kinda makes me sick to go there nowadays.
Which is why I’m reading this here and not on Reddit
Welcome to Lemmy for the last reddit users, that used old.reddit, looks like we are complete now. The rest of reddit are noobs and bots.
I came here three years ago when they killed the API and Reddit is Fun on mobile. I refuse to use their mobile site but still used their desktop. If they kill old.reddit I guess I'm done then.
Fuck reddit.
If you need the old info download the archive. 99% of anything newer than 3 years is going to be bot slop. There's zero reason to go to reddit intentionally.
Reddit archive? Whereabouts would I acquire that?
Steve is a jealous bitch and has made it harder to find archives of that content which he does not nor has ever owned. He's like Smaug but with brain damage and an incredibly tiny penis.
Here's one, you'll have to hunt to find the big ones at this point.

I'm sick of reddit. I've been banned three times for calling out Nazis. Nazis don't get banned though
While I’ve been on Lemmy for a while, I haven’t really seen any hobby - centric or geek centric areas.
I’ll miss the movie threads in particular, but there were a ton of active crafts, art & ttrpg threads to get inspiration from. Any suggestions?
This news finally convinced me to make a Lemmy account so I can participate a little more instead of lurk. That, and generally how awful Reddit has been becoming for like, several years at this point, since the IPO.
I've swapped out RedReader on my phone's home screen with Boost; though I think it'll take some time to break the Reddit addiction.
I am looking forward to seeing Lemmy's growth!
You're actually joining at a good time. When i created my account it was one post every few hours haha
I was addicted to reddit. They killed the Reddit is Fun app that I used every day for 10 years, so I had to switch to Lemmy. It was the best thing that happened to me. It took me a few days to stop missing reddit but I am so much happier with Lemmy and never want to go back there again.
Fuck ‘em. We’re here anyway
I'm on both because the activity there is just unbeatable for niche topics, but I have been successful at bringing at least 1 or 2 other redditors over here and will continue to preach there!
It’s why I moved onto Lemmy. I can’t stand new Reddit.
For me it was the API changes that was the final straw. 3 years ago.
I don't use Lemmy as much as I did Reddit. But I've also never missed Reddit.
Reddit thinks they're an exclusivity club nowadays. Love that mentality for them, just a platform full of bots, misinformation purposed for political polarization.
They wouldn't even let me delete my account last week, "errors occured" so I just uninstalled. Good riddance.

Even if they weren't hostile towards old.reddit (the ads are far less invasive and effective), they could make a strong argument for not wanting to support a dwindling, tiny userbase.
Good. I knew reddit was going down the tubes when they stopped API access to 3rd parties.
Let it burn down.
Fuck Reddit and Fuck Spez.
I found something interesting when I check a few hours ago. I was logged out to set the stage. I goto the main page it works. I use the search bar to find a sub and it works. But all the links on that subs page to related subs direct you to the "You have to log in"
So I was like, hmm what if I type one of these links into the search bar and see if I can get the link that way? It worked I could access the link that previous required a log in

I'm sure they will close that loophole and reddit will continue its decline...
They probably are tightening down to try and slow AI scraper bots.
Either way, I've mostly given up Reddit for Lemmy anyway. I looked the other day and realized I haven't even commented on Reddit in 4 months.
Reddit has gotten really lame, there's always been saddos who troll through entire post history's when they can't win an argument.
Lately they've changed stratagies to calling people underage instead hoping mods delete accounts or something I guess. It just comes across as absolutely pathetic to me.
But yeah Reddit is definitely breaking old.reddit on purpose and will probably be just mostly bots soon .
I have a theory that only shitstains complain about "people digging through post history". Let's put it to the test:
Being from the UK I actually support Nuking them if they try it again, the Falklands are all British Citizens and they voted on it fairly, let them revote if they like.
Well, there you have it. No wonder you don't want people looking at your public post history. You're in favor of using nuclear weapons against Argentina for a land dispute. Lmao. Theory confirmed.
Happened weeks ago for me. I begrudgingly made a throwaway account with a throwaway email.
Then they slapped me with age verification as well.
Fuck 'em.
I used python to write a program that bypasses the login prompt and displays the site in a wrapper that's identical to old reddit. It's honestly been kind of fun adding in features that were removed from the site years ago. Fuck spez and fuck all of his admins.
I knew it was over when the CEO payed himself 200 million the year before it went public (or whatever) he basically looted the fucking place cause he knew it'd be worthless soon after
