Reddit requires users to accumulate karma before they can fully participate. In practice, this means that your ability to post depends on receiving upvotes from other users.
However, after observing the platform for some time, I don't think highly upvoted posts and comments are necessarily the highest-quality ones. Original or intellectually sharp ideas often receive less attention than opinions that simply reinforce what the majority already believes.
The incentive structure seems to reward social conformity more than intellectual quality. People often upvote content not because it is the most insightful, but because it provides the comfort of agreement and reinforces a shared worldview.
As a result, Reddit's reputation system tends to filter out unconventional or challenging ideas. While it is effective at surfacing popular opinions, it is far less effective at identifying high-quality thinking. In that sense, the platform's design systematically favors consensus over insight.
I hope Lemmy grows into a community that values thoughtful, high-quality discussions.

Unpopular opinion: I don't like how abstract the later Part 6 stands are.
Reality in fiction is not measured by how closely it resembles the ordinary world we experience, but by how deeply it approaches the truths of humanity and the world itself.
Whether one finds the bizarre Stand abilities in Part 6 appealing is ultimately a matter of taste. However, to conclude that their strangeness diminishes the work's sense of reality is to misunderstand the kind of reality Araki seeks to achieve.
The reality Araki pursues is not the superficial imitation of the real world. Rather, by portraying abilities and events that could never exist in reality, he reaches toward truths about human nature and the world that reality alone cannot fully express.
