Take a baking sheet and flip it over. That's your pizza steel for this thin crust pizza. 425 for 8-12 minutes. And I definitely recommend a sprinkle of corn meal or semolina between the baking sheet and the pizza.

You may want to turn on the boiler for the last few minutes.

Cost per person before toppings is $1.60. And you'd be really pressed to put another dollar worth of toppings on a pizza this size.

I do this sometimes, but I use two tortillas with some filling in-between to make it a quesodizza

[–] Leviathan@fedinsfw.app 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

A quesadilla with nacho toppings sounds much better than a pizza on a tortilla. Especially when the bakery on the corner sells 600g of pizza dough for like 10 bucks.

[–] Alabaster_Mango@lemmy.ca -1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Buddy, were here talking about tortillas with pizza toppings. We're doing fusions and experiments. If you wanna talk about bog-standard nachos or pizzas go make your own thread, lol.

[–] Leviathan@fedinsfw.app 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I really couldn't give less of a fuck, nacho quesadilla is still loads better of an idea than pretending a tortilla pizza isn't sad garbage, and I'm not your buddy, dickhead.

[–] Alabaster_Mango@lemmy.ca 0 points 1 day ago

Why are you so mad about what others are eating pal? I never said your nachos were bad, just kinda basic. Go enjoy them. I'm over here enjoying my silly little quesodizzas. Try to relax friend.

What are the round green things?

[–] SpacemanSpiff@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I think those rings are sliced green olives.

[–] MJKee9@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Thank God!; for a second I thought it was cooked kiwi.

[–] FauxPseudo@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

That is definitely a thing but not one that I would do.

[–] Jarix@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

This isn't pizza it's an open-faced quesadilla!

Jah, ist good!

[–] s3rvant@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 days ago

We make these often; kiddos love them

[–] Kalothar@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 days ago

I do these on camping trips and my group of friends call them cowboy pizzas

[–] trem@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I'll sometimes make a lazy version of this, just on a plate in the microwave. Probably shouldn't use ingredients, though, that need to be cooked for food safety...

[–] FauxPseudo@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Yeah. Pre-cook toppings if you are doing this in a microwave.

[–] brem@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I'ma gonna do this same thing, but with a dash o' Lawry's.

Fun read up. Feels like something I'd see scratched onto the cell walls of Martha's room, as dictated by The Fonz.

[–] FauxPseudo@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I tried reading this in Fonz's voice. I can almost hear it. Short declarative sentences.

[–] slothrop@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 days ago

Love your stuff, once again.

cheers,

[–] Simulation6@sopuli.xyz 2 points 2 days ago

That looks like stuff will fall off when you go to eat it. Looks good though.

[–] Tikiporch@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

What's up with your green olives?

[–] FauxPseudo@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Jalapeno stuffed olives sliced up. Adding some much needed flavor and brininess to balance the meatballs.

[–] Tikiporch@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Didn't know that was a thing! Sounds like a convenient combo of two of my favorite things.

[–] FauxPseudo@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Check the olive section at your local grocery store and see if you can find some.

If it's made with mozzarella and a tomato sauce, then it can't be a cheese crisp. That's a pizza.

[–] protist@retrofed.com 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Why the bottom of a cookie sheet?

[–] FauxPseudo@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

If you put it directly on the oven rack, it's going to sag and droop. If you put it inside of a baking sheet, it's going to be harder to get it out with a pizza peel. Flip the thing over and you have a nice flat surface with no edges in the way.

[–] protist@retrofed.com 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Ah, we had different things in mind. Baking/cookie sheet for me means something like this:

I'd call one with edges around it a baking tray

[–] FauxPseudo@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

That design is typically insulated. Which is great for not burning cookies but horrible for pizza crust.

[–] protist@retrofed.com 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

That's a good point. I have a dedicated round pizza tray so have never used either of the other options and clearly don't know what I'm talking about lol

[–] FauxPseudo@lemmy.world 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I use a silicon mat to avoid burning cookies. I don't want to store a large dedicated tool for them.

[–] threelonmusketeers@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

silicon

Silicone

I assume you're not baking cookies on semiconductor wafers :)

[–] FauxPseudo@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

They are expensive but worth it.

Unless you can find a way to do it with phyllo dough. I do believe that this is the limit.

[–] mavu@discuss.tchncs.de -5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Fusion is great if we're talking about suns or reactors.

with Food? no.

[–] FauxPseudo@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

All modern food fusion. Pizza itself is impossible without tomatoes from the new world. The same place tortillas are from.

[–] mavu@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Well, great, you just destroyed the word "fusion (cuisine)". How are we supposed to talk about that now? hm?

I'll have you reported to the Oxford dictionary for word-murder. See how you like that!

[–] FauxPseudo@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

As an American I don't recognize the authority of Oxford. They have no jurisdiction over me. You will need to try Webster if you want to get anything done.

We used to make those all the time: I probably got the idea from a South Beach or other low carb diet site 15+ years ago. I had totally forgotten about them.

With the right size tortillas you can also do them in a toaster oven.

We still do flat bread (naan) versions of these. I start on a round cast iron griddle on the stove top, and let the bottom crisp while building the sauce and toppings, and then throw them under the broiler for a few minutes. I bet the tortillas would be just as good that way.

Both versions are handy when not everyone wants the same toppings (kids or grandkids) since each one is basically a personal size pizza.

[–] FauxPseudo@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Naan pizza is a favorite of mine.
