The year is 1999, this takes place in Woodcrest, a mostly white suburb. I doubt Jasmine's white mother is brave enough to go to an inner ciry hair store to ask hel0 taking care of her daughters hair. Willing to stand for their rights, but not willing to actually get to know what it means to be black/mixed.
I'm white. I was 8 when this came out I don't recall stores having an adequate section for black hair, let alone mixed hair. When i was working at Walmart in 2014 it was just one 4 foot by 4 foot for section labeled ethnic body care. I took my daughter, black, to the hair store not that long ago and was blown away vy the number of different products there were fpr the same thing. Walmart may have only had 1 product for each application. Part of having a child who is a different race is learning how their body is different in certain ways.
