AI is one of the most useful technologies of our time. It helps people learn faster, create art, write software, research difficult subjects, and solve problems that once required expensive experts.
It gives ordinary people access to abilities that were previously limited by money, education, disability, or geography.

This really doesn't have much to say, other than "it's complicated" while echoing some often repeated poor-faith arguments in favor of foolish unrestricted AI use.

I think so. Lemmys fee peer pressure to hate anything connected to AI, even though many of its users are programmers who use AI tools themselves.
I’ve vibe-coded apps for my own personal use in under an hour. I never woulda hired anyone to build them and I never wold have paid for commercial versions. AI allowed me to create tools that fit my exact needs.
Anyone who wants to spend years learning traditional programming can still do that. AI's not stopping them. But some of us just want to turn an idea into something useful without first becoming professional developers.
What makes the Lemmy outrage especially hypocritical to me is that many people on Lemmy grew up pirating games, software, movies, and music, yet now suddenly act horrified about theft.
Workers in other industries have dealt with automation, outsourcing, offshoring, and layoffs for decades. Programmers laughed a few years ago and insisted AI could never replace them. Now many act furious because it might affect their status and salaries. Gues what? Welcome to the fucking club. Us nonprogramming plebs have always had to deal with that shit.
I see AI as a great equalizer. And I love it!

I don't begrudge the equalized access one bit.
I started when BASIC let average citizens start coding without having to learn Assembler.
I do begrudge that AI is often being sold as a perfect solution to everyone's problems.
BASIC solved some problems and created some new problems. AI will, too.
