Posts should be related to UK-centric news, and should be either a link to a reputable source, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

I was curious as to why they didn't mention his party, turns out he doesn't have one, but is an ex-Conservative

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrick_Spencer_(politician)

Elected as a Conservative, he had the whip withdrawn in May 2025, and now sits as an independent.

On 13 May 2025, he was charged by the Metropolitan Police with two counts of sexual assault that allegedly took place at London's Groucho Club in August 2023. As a consequence, he had the Conservative Party whip withdrawn.

Sounds like it was the incident mentioned in the art icle that made the Conservatives abandon him.

Whenever I see that a public figure is accused of something like this as they became a public figure I tend to assume it is drummed up noise. Who hasn't accidentally touched people while in clubs. Now - if there is video or photos like we saw of Urban Meyer in American. Then you are caught red handed. If this guy was casually trying to brush up against women, he would have other outlets and other accusers.

Seems like there is.

Jurors were shown a slowed-down version of CCTV footage of Spencer unsteady on his feet that night and of the moments he approached the women.

Given that he "approached" them from behind and grabbed their boobs. Then he was kicked out of the club. So yeah, it's not drummed up noise.

Your take doesn't really fit with the timeline described in the article. If the police hadn't screwed up, it would have come out before he became MP (and presumably he wouldn't have).
