I don't know if anyone is following the race at the moment (The TOP 32 is currently live.) But I still wanted to make a community for drifting, and to make a post. How is the season looking so far? Who are you rooting for?
I'm personally very happy about Krisse Aalto qualifying, that's a huge win for the sport itself. Other than that, I'm rooting for Mika Keski-Korpi.
My thoughts on the TOP 32; no surprise that Aalto dropped but I'm still very, very happy for her. I hope to see more from her! And sad to see Keski-Korpi lose also, he had strong start but no luck. Lots of good drivers having issues with their cars, the new track must be challenging. I absolutely love the flow of the new Ahvenisto track, amazing elevation changes. It's nice to see the OG drivers find a heartbeat too. I hope it'll come back next year!
I don't have any faves in the TOP 16 or 8, will still watch. Judging seems to be more fair now, maybe Randalu's protest had some effect? (Link to his and his team's YouTube video) Or maybe it's pressure from the new Royal Drift series.. Anyways, happy to see change.
And my thoughts on the TOP 16 and the whole final; I did expect this to go this way, but that's good! Jack Shanahan winning was a big surprise and it was great to see Jack behave like a human. The whole time I have followed drift, which is only 2-3 years to be honest, Jack sadly has behaved more like a grumpy big brother forced to go look after his "lil bro" all around Europe, driving very lazy. But now? He was happy, chatty, made jokes, behaved like a sportsman during the whole event! Amazing. I think the win went to the right address. I hope he keeps this up. Great driving from Cirba and Randalu aswell. And what makes me love drift, when Nasser Alharbali's car got properly hit, all the other teams helped to build it back up in few hours and he drove amazing next run even if he dropped. Just amazing to see the teams help each other, there was literally 25 people working on his car in the short window!
I really like that this event "messed up" the whole point standings, makes rest of the season far more interesting. There has been a clear change on judging aswell. I can understand that the judging is made fast and under pressure, but I don't think that justificates it not being transparent. I have watched one event of the new Royal Drift series from and even though I am not a fan of the country it takes place, they do judging well. There judges take their time and they even show in animations on why they made their decisions. I do hope Drift Masters's would take notes, even if it made the event longer. I also don't think that David Kalas is the main culprit (or the antichrist), he just happens to be the Face of all the judges.
I'm cautiously excited about the Round 5 in Riga, and will probably try to mark other events in my calendar too. Like what's happening over at the Royal Drift and so on. I think I'll try to make these little posts in this community and write my silly opinions, no matter if they get read or not. Why not try?
