This was a pretty egregious situation, it was a tiny plant (like 30 cm max) in a garden bed with sandy soil and a few big rain storms. Dirt and sand EVERYWHERE.
I love the ease of growing outside...but I might be too dainty for that now lol
Splish splash weed was taken a bath
Why would this matter if you're not making food with it?
I would prefer not to smoke insect eggs.
I think it'd matter less if they were extracting it for edibles.
People don't want to smoke dirt. Inhaling silica is said to be bad for you. Probably little makes it through a joint or sticky pipe though and I assume none through a water bong.
If you use a grinder you don't want the grinder full of soil and sand. Especially sand since it'll erode the inside chambers.
Easier to wash it before processing than to knock off dirt clumps after drying/curing
