Party’s old guard abandons ‘blue no matter what’ banner to push for a more formal break with progressive wing

All of their bullshit about trying to preserve democracy and caring for the marginalized was nothing but lies to stay in power.

Their true colors are a showing, this is why we say scratch a liberal and a fascist bleeds

Let's not adjust our platform, let's just whine and pout.

[–] jontree255@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago

Not just not adjusting but reaffirming their commitment to the status quo that got us here in the first place.

The immediate Dem response to a couple DSA candidates winning in NYC vs the response to Trump in early 2025 is telling. They don’t want to actually represent left leaning voters. They just want to suck up donor money and stand for nothing.

Candidate who just won: "I'm going to do what my constituents asked me to do."

Candidate who just lost: "This person is a radical leftist tankie who is not in touch with their district."

Its hard to understand if centrists are just talking to themselves when they whine or else maybe they feel a tiny bit of shame and lash out because thats uncomfortable. I'd like to think its the shame. But probably not.

So only preaching unity when they have power, fucking typical

[–] a_non_monotonic_function@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

No, they also preach unity when they're 100% out of power.

This is a rather visceral reaction to the people voting for what they believe in. Which is not exactly the Democratic party for most of us.

Unity with the left when they have power, damn my inspecificity

It gets really hard to come up with an apt description of them.

I think this does it pretty succinctly:

Sort of, but it needs more folks punching themselves in the balls repeatedly.

Don’t blame the candidate, listen to the voters you lost.

The projection is astonishing.

Josh Shapiro calling Democratic Socialism 'performative politics', even after Mamdani delivers free child care, a new tax on billionaires, and a rent freeze. Several other Dems have made similar whiny comments. Their sense of entitlement infuriates me.

Meanwhile ever here I'm not voting for ANYONE that doesn't identify publicly as a socialist.

The hilarious thing about Shairo is that he's basically a noob. He's had a single term as a state governor and from there he wants to jump straight to the presidency. Anyone else doing that would be seen as vastly too junior. But he's an uber zionist so he gets a free ride to wherever he wants to go in American politics.

Unfortunately, it's the DSA who are more the exception than the rule. IFW these centrists were "fake" dems, but they've got far more in common with the historical roots of the party than anything Mamdani's wing is up to.

LWINO, then: Left wing in name only

(and mostly according to themselves and their media owning billionaire friends at that)

But most of them don't actually even pretend to be left-wing.
