A community for your defence shitposting needs

Rules

1. Be niceDo not make personal attacks against each other, call for violence against anyone, or intentionally antagonize people in the comment sections.

2. Explain incorrect defense articles and takes

If you want to post a non-credible take, it must be from a "credible" source (news article, politician, or military leader) and must have a comment laying out exactly why it's non-credible. Low-hanging fruit such as random Twitter and YouTube comments belong in the Matrix chat.

3. Content must be relevant

Posts must be about military hardware or international security/defense. This is not the page to fawn over Youtube personalities, simp over political leaders, or discuss other areas of international policy.

4. No racism / hatespeech

No slurs. No advocating for the killing of people or insulting them based on physical, religious, or ideological traits.

5. No politics

We don't care if you're Republican, Democrat, Socialist, Stalinist, Baathist, or some other hot mess. Leave it at the door. This applies to comments as well.

6. No seriousposting

We don't want your uncut war footage, fundraisers, credible news articles, or other such things. The world is already serious enough as it is.

7. No classified material

Classified ‘western’ information is off limits regardless of how "open source" and "easy to find" it is.

8. Source artwork

If you use somebody's art in your post or as your post, the OP must provide a direct link to the art's source in the comment section, or a good reason why this was not possible (such as the artist deleting their account). The source should be a place that the artist themselves uploaded the art. A booru is not a source. A watermark is not a source.

9. No low-effort posts

No egregiously low effort posts. E.g. screenshots, recent reposts, simple reaction & template memes, and images with the punchline in the title. Put these in weekly Matrix chat instead.

10. Don't get us banned

No brigading or harassing other communities. Do not post memes with a "haha people that I hate died… haha" punchline or violating the sh.itjust.works rules (below). This includes content illegal in Canada.

11. No misinformation

NCD exists to make fun of misinformation, not to spread it. Make outlandish claims, but if your take doesn’t show signs of satire or exaggeration it will be removed. Misleading content may result in a ban. Regardless of source, don’t post obvious propaganda or fake news. Double-check facts and don't be an idiot.

This is more embarrassing than my country losing the Emu wars, algae cannot run away...

[–] sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 7 hours ago

... at least emus are capable of group tactics, christ what an embarassment.

Now Trump is the first president in history to be outwitted by a single-celled organism...

[–] john_t@piefed.ee 19 points 14 hours ago

He was also outwitted by a virus, even lower on the evolutionary scale.

Algoe are mostly multicellular, if fact they might all be idk. Your point stands undeniable though, he's dumb as shit.

[–] CarbonIceDragon@pawb.social 2 points 6 hours ago

Generally unrelated, but there's a type of algae (acetabularia) that looks like it should be multicellular, its a macroscopic "plant" with a clear if simple structure, with roots, a stem, and a mushroom cap looking plate on top. But, its actually a single celled organism, and unlike many other single celled organisms that are big enough to see, which often have multiple cell nuclei and effectively act like multiple cells just without the walls separating them, it only has one nucleus as well. Algae are weird.

[–] Substance_P@lemmy.world 2 points 9 hours ago

Yeah I looked it up before posting, and although there are many common types of green algae, (many that are not single celled) the genus Desmodesmus or often clasified as Scenedesmus algae is said to be the single celled version here.

We're not going to be able to make fun of Australia for losing to a bunch of birds anymore, are we?

[–] Theoriginalthon@lemmy.world 2 points 10 hours ago

That ship sailed a long time ago, this is like a footnote in the index

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 4 points 10 hours ago

"What are we losing?"

"Yes."

Strangely enough, paying 300 billion dollars to the pool might actually result in victory here.

Or some really expensive paint, idk.

I hate to argue against the presiden't latest dumbassery, but he's arguing someone took a box cutter and cut a slit 350 feet long.

If someone did you that, it would be a failure of his administration to not catch them on the spot well before they got that far.

This is beyond stupid, not worth responding to except for the poor bastards the feds are trying to run through the meat grinder to cover up the president corruptly giving a contract to his partners that kickback to him.

[–] Substance_P@lemmy.world 3 points 9 hours ago

Wait, I think I found the culprit.

[–] jode@pawb.social 7 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

The fact that people believe this tells me the lot of them have never participated in a single second of manual labour. You go drag a box cutter 10 feet across a similar surface and tell me what that blade looks like haha.

[–] tpihkal@lemmy.world 2 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

350 ft. is no joke. I think someone would have to be on their hands and knees dragging that knife across a distance longer that the Statue of Liberty is tall (by 49 ft.)!

[–] valek879@sh.itjust.works 0 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

If only someone had a graphic made comparing the statue of Liberty and the reflecting pool side by side then I'd truly understand the scale!

[–] tpihkal@lemmy.world 2 points 8 hours ago

Well, if it helps, the Eiffel Tower is almost 109 elephants tall and the slit is about a third of the height of the Eiffel Tower...so approximately 36 elephants tall in length. Does that help?

[–] YaDownWitCPP@lemmy.world 5 points 15 hours ago

Why aren't we talking about the Biden administration? Where was the Biden administration when the Emu Wars were being lost?

[–] heliotrope@retrofed.com 1 points 13 hours ago

Where are these from?
