Torrent-Tube is a set of tools to help decentralize YouTube videos, by moving them to torrents, which can be shared by many people. It includes:

  • A Torrent-Tube search site which searches the Torrents-csv search engine to see if the given YouTube video already exists, and is being seeded.
    • It does this by extracting the YouTube [VIDEO_ID] from a link, which you can also do manually if you like (IE, the text after watch?v=...).
  • A script to check for previously made torrents, and if there are none, then download, and create torrent files from YouTube videos, with a uniform naming style and format, taken from TheFrenchGhosty's YouTube-DL-Scripts.
  • You will need to upload these torrent files yourself to a service (details below), and seed them.
  • You can also post these videos to lemmy.ml/c/torrenttube, with the magnet link as the URL, and a webp video thumbnail contained in the videos/MY_VIDEO folder.

Future plans

  • Create a browser plugin that checks a video link that you're currently watching for existing torrents.
  • Create a UI for viewing these additions. (The lemmy.ml community works for now)

Good idea. We can do that with the lemmy community at least:

RSS feed: https://lemmy.ml/feeds/c/torrenttube.xml?sort=Active

i more meant, maybe it's possible to envelop %channel_name% inside unique rss feeds, and thus, adding a channel to qbittorrent would be much simpler, while people might populate it by themselves as unique entries in rss? so make an additional layer between csv and raw videos, but one which makes some sense from youtube user perspective (channels), cause qbit works fine-ish with rss feeds natively.

sorta kinda like fintube tries to do it (well not really, but the ease of use is there outside of dlp breaking), only with qbit instead of jellyfin.

*okay maybe two sets of rss lists are needed: channel name with all the videos ids (just metadata from youtube) and nothing else, and then real (applicable for qbit) rss list with existing torrents of that channel name videos 🤔 little bit complicated

Creating a youtube channel torrent rss feed could be tricky, because those need to be hosted on a server somewhere.

Just for the hell of it I tried adding a lemmy RSS feed to qbittorrent, and while it worked, it incorrectly uses the lemmy URL rather than the magnet link url (this is intentional since we want to link to the post with the comments, not just the direct link).

Torrents-csv could implement rss feeds, but there's no categorization so it'd just have to be rss feeds for given searches, by newest date.

might be possible to disaggregate vs field (could be useful anyway for cleanness), but you are right it will need additional website to implement the rest and feed rss as probably independent tracker, and it seems i might have overestimated qbit rss feasibility w/o 3 additional thingies :(

Just added an easy way to post these torrents to this (or any) lemmy community: https://github.com/dessalines/torrent-tube/pull/15
