If it's any consolation, there are quite a few countries where this is a thing. I don't want to think percentage wise, it would make me sad.
I hate to admit it, but we're on the wrong side of World War III aren't we? We're gonna get anhilated in an AI-fuelled nuclear war, and we can only hope that an enlightened post-scarcity utopia is on the other side.

I call my useless reps, I write emails, I help where I can (admittedly little, but it’s all I’ve got). It’s still shit.
I spent the last 20+ years trying to help politically dense individuals understand the how and why. It didn’t move the needle.
