Explanation: During Sherman's campaigns in the US South, one tactic he used to destroy Confederate infrastructure was the creation of "Sherman's neckties", wherein railroad rails were heated, and then bent (often around a tree trunk) to render them unrecoverable by Confederate engineers. Named as such because when bent around a tree, they looked like the tree was wearing a tie.
