I don't have direct experience with what you're trying to do with CTTY, but I do have a CF-to-IDE on a 5160. It's been a while since I used it, but it was a game changer because I could get exact versions of things I needed more easily. Iirc I ended up with MS-DOS 5 as a sweet spot between features and performance, and I also tried things like DR-DOS.

Good to know that DOS 5 was a sweet spot. Dell basically I want to connect it to a more feature rich and powerful terminal. Just using the 5155 as the input device.
Why?
Because it would be cool.
I was DRDOS team then. And now I'm Linux team. M$ is not a friend of mine.
DR DOS 6 was my favorite, one under appreciated utility was assigning a password to a file. Only people knowing the PW could get at the file.
Granted it was easy to work around, but I have to wonder how that would have been enhanced as time went on.
I really miss the DOS days :)
