It seems odd to me that Russians would transport two nuclear reactors to North Korea and leave from somewhere in the west of Russia and try travel past Spain rather than transport over land then ship it from somewhere on the east coast closer to where North Korea is ..

Why didnt russians transport a very large, and heavy reactor 6,000 miles over some of the most desolate land? The trans-siberian railway has many bridges and tunnels where it wouldnt fit. And thats assuming they could devise a special car to spread the weight of a 700+ ton reactor.

They literally have a direct railway to North Korea. So if they can fit it on a flatbed wagon, they can send it per rail (oddly enough, they don't seem to have a road connection).
Guess, it didn't fit or is some old thing, the Russians really don't care much about.

There are a lot of more or less covert operations going on against shipping right now. Someone even decapitated Iran's government and since then the Strait of Hormuz is sort-of closed...

They had a deal with the pirate king and thought it was safe.

The reactors were almost certainly in western Russia
