I had to recently drive through PA, did a trip from Virginia -> Allentown -> Honsdale -> NY

The back road speed limit signs were all over 25, 35 45... In weird places. The thing that gets me though is almost ALL of the locals just speed like crazy! I'm following the speed limit on the high way cruising along at 55. Getting passed by hicks going way way over the speed limit. Flying past me. (And tailgating... Think that is happening all over now-days...)

Is this common in PA, just fuck speed limits?

As the saying goes: 9 you're fine, 10 you're mine

I don't mind speed so much as careless driving. If someone is going the precise speed limit but is all over the road or tailgating or distracted that's way worse imo

A lot of small towns pick speed limits for weird reasons. Sometimes they want to keep dust/noise down, or a particular area is known for fatal crashes. Other times it's just how it always was and nobody thinks twice about it. NotJustBikes has a video on how speed limits are usually chosen

Common here in MI too, so I guess its just a national issue. I've been hit 3 times in the last year from careless drivers. Two of those times I wasn't even moving it was at a red light.

PA has (or had?) some law that prevents local police from using radar and lidar to measure and enforce speed limits so the enforcement seemed pretty lax when I lived there a few years back. State police don't have this restriction so they'll still get people for speeding but the local police need to do more than just sit in their cruiser pointing a radar gun at traffic.
