Finished the 3rd volume of Konosuba this week. It continues to be wonderful, though since I came to it having already seen the anime that's no surprise.

Do you hear the anime voices in your head when reading the novel? Happens to me all the time when reading a novel after watching the anime. Strangely enough, this doesn't work when I read the novel first and then watch the anime between volumes. For example, I don't read Myne's lines with her anime voice when reading Bookworm.

Sometimes for short statements. For longer statements I'm more focused on making sure I understand what they're saying.

Started reading the most heretical last boss queen, going through the 9th and late book.

Its kinda losing me. The first maybe 5 were really good. But now the main plot isn't really moving forward, well the action assassiny plot. Just their country building love inttrests and slice of life stuff.

Just their country building love inttrests and slice of life stuff.

That sounds like something for me. Maybe I should pick it up again.

If you go back to it, idk how long it has been but they are constantly talking about past events, and they mention events early that are now being told. So if its been awhile, id start from book 1. Its only 9 books.

What volume did you stop at, because i gotta say the whole feeling swapped. But now there are a ton of flashbacks living out the heretical queen days in the form of peoples dream. But that's not the main story and its only in too long of tidbits when i want to get back to the slave countrys actions.

But if the rest of the story interested you more, well its still pretty good. Ive cried a few times at the super emotional parts. At my point pride and tiara are pretty much on their own set route toward love. Ah the shit all the boys go through is probably the point of the past few volumes while the girls mostly take it easy.

I checked and it was after finishing volume 4. I dropped it because her inner monologue made her look dumb/oblivious and because the characters were so inconsistent. Here's a bit of what I wrote at the time:

Also, suddenly she is some damsel in distress who needs to be rescued from some princeling when in previous volumes she was a powerful last boss cheat monster that could annihilate a platoon of bandits that even endangered the army. But no, now some single little prince can manhandle her as he wants. Such fucking inconsistent writing.

And now that I've refreshed my memory I think I will stay away, even if there is country building.

Is that when her leg got broke? Thats because she broke the last boss bitch mode and went to go save someone. Her abilities seem to work as a last boss type of thing. Also she broke her leg because they were dropping bombs from invisible blimps and that wasn't explained in the game, so she was just a clueless teen for that.

Shes just another dumb person put into a role that she mostly knows. I believe that's why they switch to a lot more other points of views and broaden the story.

I don't remember het leg getting broke or invisible blips. Must be after volume 4. But I don't remember much anymore about the series so I might just as well have forgotten. I don't think though that I would have had such a negative reaction if her damsel-ness could be explained with some broken bones.

[–] Breezy@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

Well reincarnated pride is not the brightest, nor very socially adept. I dont even remember how old she we before becoming 8 year old pride. But she was someone who no lifed the game ORL and can only remember most things from the game, but she knows nothing about a lot of things as the story goes on. And it shows.

She settles well into a side character. The books start using pride as s setting for the rest of the cast. Its not bad, again id say some parts are great.

Though ill say her damselness in vol 4 is probably her leg being broken. Its might not have been mention or described at the end since i didn't check. But she gets sidelined hard in vol 5 and then the books delve into everyone else thats around. She even described one character as a secrete route she didnt know about.

Carl's Doomsday Scenario.

Dungeon Crawler Carl Book 2 of 8.

Wonderfully silly story. A former Coast Guardsman and his ex-girlfriend's pet cat have survived the destruction of the world and are trapped in a reality show/gladiator combat. Elves, demons, drug dealing llamas, and TV talk shows.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think this is not a Light novel. I think this series came up before.

"Light" wasn't capitalized in the question, so I thought it meant 'unserious' novels.

Never heard of capital 'L' Light as a genre.

edit = did a quick search. TIL

<The Ephemeral Scenes of Setsuna’s Journey> Vol. 6 - What a melancholic volume. The series has become so much better in making the reader feel what the author wants them to, compared to how it was in the first volume.

<Disowned but Not Disheartened! Life Is Good with Overpowered Magic> Volume 2+3 - This practically stays the way the first volume was. I really like this type of confident MC that gets thrown into the trope-y situations. It's also refreshing to see an MC that isn't an unsociable loner and has healthy support from friends and family. Really looking forward to the next volume.

Vol. 7 - The war arc is over, and we finally go back to city building again. That's when the series is best.
