Why is this argument applicable to both the USA and USSR?
Didn't you hear? "America can do no wrong." Also, my personal favorite, "there's no propaganda in the United States"

Nah around 18M passed through gulag during the USSR according to wiki and about 2M are incarcerated in the US each year.
The camps were around for about 20 years though so comparing one year to 20 probably wasn’t the best way to make a point.
