Holy pop-ups, Batman!

My pop-up blocker took care of them. But for a few seconds there was a fierce war going on.

What's this year's scandal going to be?

Yah,. I was going to ask if this is going to be another chaotic year for the Hugo's... Hope not.

After Chengdu, a work getting a Hugo is actually a mark against it. (A small mark against it, but against it nonetheless.)

I’ve read half of the best novel finalists: Raven Scholar and The Everlasting are both fantastic, but Death of the Author is one of the worst books I’ve read in years.

Similar. Shroud and A Drop of Corruption are both great. Corruption is the second book in the series. "The Tainted Cup" is the first.

Adrian Tchaikovsky is, imho, one of the all time greats.

Haven't read any of the others.

They're not all bangers though. Alien Clay didn't do it for me. A lot of repetition for themes and concepts that could have been wrapped up in a short story.

What. New Adrian Tchaikovsky series dropped and I didn't notice!? Brb.

Shroud is a standalone. Sorry.

I know how you feel. Just finished the last book in the Tyrant Philosophers. Have to seek out more and more...

A Drop of Corruption, and Shroud are fantastic. Shining examples of compelling stories, interesting characters, and great examples of how we are living in a golden age of great authors writing great books.

On the flip side, The Raven Scholar was so bad it made me angry that I kept going till almost half way through before throwing it down in disgust.

The Everlasting had potential, but didn't stick the landing. That said, I couldn't put it down.

I'm going to give the others a read now.

Shroud was fantastic.
