The Hungarian Energy and Public Utility Regulatory Authority (MEKH) issued the first official certification of a renewable hydrogen production facility.

The plant qualification decision was given to Magyar Földgáztároló‘s (MFGT – Hungarian Gas Storage) facility. The ruling allows the company’s Kardoskút plant to become the first in the country to produce renewable hydrogen through the conversion of renewable electricity.The facility utilises water electrolysis and proton exchange membrane (PEM) technology to generate the gas. Following a professional audit and technical review, the regulator confirmed the plant is capable of verifying its output with official guarantees of origin.
