The only parties with nominated entities registered with the Victorian Electoral Commission are Labor, and the Liberal and National parties. While laws allowed for the creation of new nominated entities, any set up after 1 July 2020 were subject to the donation cap.

Seems like the High Court made a sensible decision. This is some anti-democratic bullshit if I ever did see it.

Fuck the Labor Party. Watch them not reintroduce these laws at all now...

It might be an uneven law that needed review but for now at least, isn't this change aligned with Citizens United in the US and hasn't that had some famous consequences we are kind of living through? I'm not arguing the law should be unevenly applied, just that for now there is risk

Oh I want them to introduce campaign funding limits, just without the loop holes and unfair advantages.

The major parties had exemptions before this law was struck down, meaning they were already exposed to unlimited and undisclosed donations from billionaires.

This ruling will force the majority Labor government to introduce legislation without the loophole.

Allan said the ruling meant state politics could be flooded with “dark money” from foreign billionaires, and she promised to introduce legislation to restore the electoral integrity regime within the limits of the ruling.

Yeah, I get that. It seems to me that it's relying on parties in power doing things that limit their power so I was just saying it seems risky
