I feel like this is going to have a bunch of lawsuits filed. Both from individual consumers/class action, and by attorneys general. Car manufacturers are required to make replacement parts for at least 10 years (longer in some areas/situations), and this was absolutely sold as a feature.
Given that some of these are just 4 years old, that sounds like a fairly easy win.
When I worked in the electronics industry, the cutoff for service parts was five years, except in California where it was seven. Are other industries (like cars) different?
Looking into this deeper, I'm having trouble finding a law that would apply here. I could find a clear requirement on emissions parts from CARB (which is what I remembered), and a bunch of unreliable sources saying such a law doesn't exist anywhere. I also found a number stating it only applies during the warranty period, no sources cited.
My original point still stands, based on the PlayStation 3 "Other OS" class action. It was sold as a feature, and later removed by Sony.
I had a Juke with Nissan Connect. It was neither necessary nor good. This really isn't that big of a loss.
