I wanted to share this open-source alternative to Spotify/YouTube Music for Android that I found. It's ad-free and VERY CUSTOMIZABLE. This definitely deserves so much MORE recognition. https://github.com/koiverse/ArchiveTune

It is using youtube music as the source, FYI

when you login with google, doesnt that ruin the "privacy" part? pls fill me in

[–] ThisIsABlandUsername@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 days ago

Some people are ok with that. Privacy is not an all or nothing ideal, it's a spectrum. Some people want privacy in some areas but are ok with none in others.

[–] rafssunny@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

you don't need to log in to use the app.

[–] blinfabian@feddit.nl 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

no i know, but because its an option thats just something i was wondering

[–] DarkMetatron@feddit.org 1 points 2 days ago

The login is a great Option for people like me who have a youtube account, in my case with premium even, but prefere the features and design of this app over the official one.

In this case privacy, in regards of my music taste and hearing patterns, is something I don't care about much.

for most songs it just says i need to log in to confirm im not a bot, so i logged in but the error persists. anyone else had this happen? if so, how to fix?

appears to be similar to innertune / metrolist. I use the latter and adore it.

[–] Shady_Shiroe@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

In the README under Acknowledgements, they credit Metrolist for base framework.

In other news, I'm satisfied with metrolist so I don't see a need to switch, has been a much better experience than spotube even before their refactor cuz of Spotify lawyers.

Another big upvote for Metrolist. IMO its the best of them.

I try last week, work perfectly on Android but not on Android Auto.

I just want to take a moment to reflect on how nice the material you UI looks.

This is a very polished product. Surprisingly so

[–] Evil_Shrubbery@thelemmy.club -1 points 3 days ago

Oh, no kidding, it is!

Even github is very respectable.

[–] brokenwing@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 3 days ago

There are a couple of good ones that does the same. Either fetching from YouTube or Savnn. I use OuterTune.

Scroll all the way down. If the developer has published/released apk, you'll see a Releases secrion at the bottom.

Click on Releases to view all versions that have been released. The highlighted green one is the latest official apk.

If you have Obtainium, just add the URL into it, and it'll auto find releases and updates.

I had the same problem and are using Obtainium for most of my apps as of now.

[–] rafssunny@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 days ago

if you haven't been able to, their website has a direct link to download the apk. link

[–] tehsYs@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 3 days ago

Wow, looks amazing, going to try instead of revanced.

[–] timhayes1991@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Very nice, thank you for sharing! Haven't heard of this one before. Always down to get rid of a Google service. Sadly I've yet to find a YouTube solution better than Morphe.

[–] dihutenosa@piefed.social -1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

How exactly are you getting rid of Google with this? The music is still loaded from Google servers, thus subject to blocking or disappearing.

[–] timhayes1991@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 days ago

I suppose, but I don't need a Google account for it!

[–] bright@piefed.social 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

It says it draws from YouTube Music. Do you have to be a subscriber?

[–] rafssunny@lemmy.zip 7 points 3 days ago (2 children)

no, and you don't even need to log in to use it.

[–] Tangent5280@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

So, like spotube? Does it also use the same download mechanisms in the background?

[–] roserose56@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 days ago

Bro I have spotube, but after some time it got unusable. Loved it tho.

[–] PMmeTrebuchets@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 days ago

Ohhhh I'm so downloading this. Ty!

[–] idefix@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 days ago

Is it a RiMusic child such as Kreate?
