I finally got fed up with Ultimate Guitar pushing their paid subscription and pop-up ads everywhere. Spent a couple weeks trying alternatives and wanted to share what stuck.

What I actually use now:

  1. ChordRoom (chordroom.com) — This one surprised me. 260k+ songs, completely free, no account needed. Clean layout, you can transpose and change instruments right on the page. The search is fast and I can usually find what I need.

  2. Songsterr — Good for more accurate tabs, especially if you play electric. The playback feature is nice but the free version is limited.

  3. Chordify — Works well if you want to learn by ear. It auto-detects chords from audio which is cool for obscure songs.

Honestly ChordRoom has become my daily driver just because there are no barriers — no login wall, no "upgrade to pro" nags. Anyone else moved away from UG? What are you using instead?

I don't look up tabs often, but I hadn't heard of ChordRoom. I think that'll be my go-to now, since both UG and Songsterr are both abominations most of the time.
