I haven't flown to China (and similar countries) for work since before The Pandemic.
But the policy my work used was that we had dedicated hardware for foreign travel. Basically a phone/laptop with (sanitized versions of) your presentation, the ability to remote in to HQ, and whatever documents you needed for travel. And many of us who did those routes on the regular and wanted to spend personal days would own a dedicated personal device as well.
The idea being that you DO want to have something on there. Going in with a fully wiped device just raises the most red flags imaginable. Going in with some cookies for a reddit account or a (second) gmail account makes you look like a normal person and doesn't even raise any yellow flags.
